So does anyone else on the OT have a hard-headed family member (son) in Sarasota that thinks they are going to ride this storm out two miles from the beach?
I am beside myself right now….
Tell him to at least go a few more miles inland where it's safe. He can always go back to his house after the storm surge flows out.

Did they make it look pink for breast cancer awareness month?

Someone mentioned yesterday that Florida doesn’t have gas pipelines and relies on trucks from ports to supply fuel. They said with contra flow motorists could be stranded without fuel.

Milton starting to look like it did 24 hours ago. Looks like some RI coming right now. Probably gonna be a CAT5 at next advisory. Also, if that shear really is moving northward, Milton gonna be like something Tampa coast hasnt seen...hopefully people are getting out of there

On a side note…… I’m absolutely floored that a state like Florida doesn’t have a traffic contra-flow plan for hurricane evacuation purposes. You are either going north or south while evacuating the peninsula, surely someone would have thought about a better way to handle traffic
They use emergency shoulder lanes and other measures. Its not some stupid oversight. Its an intentionally thought-out strategy.
Contra-flow could cause more problems than it solves and takes time to effectively implement.

I saw a post on X where the Florida Highway Patrol had commandeered one lane of traffic on the interstate southbound and was escorting fuel trucks from the ports.

Tell him to Sharpee his name and social security number on his arm for identification. That would wake me up.

For the record, I am not the Psych guy being referred to here.
When I first started keeping up with these weather threads I confused Duke with Dukke V.
Sorry Duke.

This is honestly my best hope at this time. If he at least gets east of I-75 it greatly increases his chances.
I have a distinct feeling his decision is being influenced by his live-in GF.
Our efforts are continuing as we speak to get both of them on the road. Pray we are successful

Im not suggesting he stay, but something like 90% of casualties from hurricanes are from surge and flooding, 9% from cleaning up and horseplay, and 1% from wind.
Distance from the beach really only matters in regards to elevation. You could be on the beach and 40 ft high and safer than 3 miles from the beach on a bayou at 0 ft elevation.
Given that, I don't know why everyone wouldn't just go east across the state for a short drive and ride it out on the atlantic side at least.
