I was going to say earlier that this argument just doesn't feel right without Slack.

Will be interesting to see what impact this current wobble to the east will have on landfall on the Florida West Coast...

All I know is that Pear River had some crazy winds for Katrina. Not as bad as the poor souls 20 miles to the east but it was nasty in PR.

Yes. That's what a direct hit is.

Doesn’t matter that Betsy landed as a Cat 4 and Nola was in the north east quadrant?
I'm not trying to minimize storms like Betsy, Katrina, etc etc. I'm actually trying to highlight how many people seem to think Cat 1/2 or even Cat 3 storms are not that big of a deal or whatever, which is completely false. Cat 2 conditions are generally horrific. Most people have never experienced them or worse.

the derecho allegedly had 90-100 in my hood. Beryl was a nice storm compared, just a lot longer, in no small part because the former took out all the trees that i could possibly be worried about. The wind also wasn't nearly as intense
anyway, i have no desire to ride out a cat 3+ unless i got a stage 4 cancer and i just want to go out like that.

All I’m trying to say - which may be in agreement with you - is that you don’t even need to be close to the eye to have life changing damage

IntelFrog is continuing to track the deployment and management of FEMA resources ahead of Milton.

I would guess that wobble may put it on a very slightly more southern path

No argument there. To me that actually enforces my point to some extent that you could not even come close to experiencing Cat 2 or even Cat 1 conditions and have your property blown/washed away. Now imagine what it would be like to experience true cat 3+ conditions.
To Slackster's point, people will think they weathered 90-100 mph winds when in reality, the winds they were experiencing weren't even hurricane force. That's how powerful hurricanes are.

people not securing their furniture
for Ida, it was a neighbor's roof.
it (something else) tapped danced around on my roof before landing up against the side of my house and punching a nice sized hole into my kitchen.
that bitch tore me up pretty good.
ripped 2 exterior walls up pretty good (which in turn obviously royally fricked up the inside)
no clue where this 2x4 came from but it came through the exterior of my attic and punched through my center match ceiling. Was wedged so tight had to beat it with a sledge hammer to get it out.
so people can go ahead and think that winds won't kill you if they'd like.
but I'm guessing had my neighbor been inside his home when the roof flew off and walls collapsed, his chance of survival would have taken a nose dive.
I probably would have still survived inside my house, but looks like it would have been a nightmarish scenario to experience.
and looking around my hometown, I was one of the lucky ones.
I also did surgery work on Grand Isle immediately after Ida.
I walked the entire length of the island starting at the bridge by Elmer's Island a couple times over a few weeks.
Was a complete hells cape on the western end.
Eastern Side and Center were rough, but held up fairly well, but good lord the west side was decimated.

3 or 4 days without power is fine - anything longer than that is something I’d like to avoid. Even though I am pretty tough and rugged.
I've learned to cope without electricity when necessary.
not ideal, but my generator can run about 90% of my house.
28 days without running water after Ida on the other hand. NO THANK YOU.

I was 1...my Brother 2 months for Betsy...
Nobody had any idea the strength of storm that was coming because it was 1965.....I have heard about my Mother lying in bed holding on to both of us with 130 mile an hour sustained winds coming through Thibodaux and the roof starting to give way on the back half of the storm...having to scream to talk to my Father in the midst of the wind noise in that little wood frame pier house..
I am glad I was too young to remember, because the stories were pretty scary to imagine as an adult.

Last advisory shows most of the spaghetti models heading to Sarasota -- some think it may turn a little more South --

What type of badge do I get for Morgan City for Francine? Cat 1 badge? Or do I get the Cat 2 belt?
In Morgan City we got Cat 1 gusts, at best. Never really had sustained hurricane winds.
The Berwick NOAA observation station which is at the intersection of the Atchafalaya and the Intracoastal Waterway never recorded a hurricane force gust. In fact, to highlight how much a few miles can matter, these are the 3 stations near MC:
The one closes to MC had a gust of 64 mph. The one at the mouth of the river had a gust of 75 mph, and the Eugene Island station had a gust of 105 mph. It was the only station to record hurricane force sustained winds too.
If you wanted a Francine Cat 2 badge, you had to be in Point Au Fer.

Good news is it looks like a High pressure ridge will sit over the SE after Milton moves out, closing the gulf for business in the near future
