Not sure what that means for a super elevated lot. We got 18" two weeks ago and the streets flooded, bad. But the house was definitely ok.

That is crazy af. I watched a video on FB this am from Long Beach, Bahamas (I think) and it looked very similar. I've never seen anything like that before.

My Lakeland friend just reported definite tornadoes in north Lakeland. He's on he south side of town though. He's safe. He's reporting major wind and rain.

Gas stations running out of gas and bottled water...

Stay from north lakeland. A little rain will flood the streets so I can't imagine a hurricane like this will do to North Lakeland

i found out in Harvey that storm surge at barrier islands can be hard to predict
my place is 30 miles north of where the eye hit and the island barely got 2' surge

not even bad on the back end from the bay either
we sure got lucky though

That's likely a result of Florida and Georgia evacuees picking up supplies as well as people from Atlanta stocking up

It looks like Birmingham will be on the west side and avoid the worst of it.

Liz, if you are east of 75 I don't think you will get any inundation flooding.

BTW, the last year I lived in SW Florida, I lived off E Terry and Imperial Pkwy, pretty close to where you live now. That's a great area to live.

Good luck.

What? With Ivan, I lost 1/2 dozen trees and didn't have power for almost a week. It's no where near what the coastal communities have to deal with, but with all the rain we've had this year, a bunch of trees will come down.

I'd imagine if you've never been through severe tropical weather Jeff's stream and comments must be electrifying. Most of us know he's exaggerating right now, but I've got little doubt he'll be in some serious shite in the next 3-5 hours.
