well katrina hitting n.o. is closest that comes to mind and i think it can be argued A) N.O. isn't major and B) Katrina wasn't a 4 or 5 hitting city.
That's my impression but I do consider N.O. major. Just curious when the last time a major metro city had to endure a direct hit from the eyewall. Can't imagine what that would do to skyscrapers even if they are designed to withstand the winds.

Well, I could sure use the insurance money from my lake house outside of Gainesville being destroyed.

So this hasn't been discussed yet:
2 shite situations, have to pick one.
Miami takes it on the chin - OR - The entire state minus the panhandle gets rocked.
Which?

is this Euro trying to put the Gulf back in play?
The Gulf was never out of play. Low probability, but a track up the west coast of Florida with a turn back into the Big Bend or Panhandle is still on the table, probably more likely than a track up the east coast with the turn back into GA/SC.
ETA: I should clarify that I'm talking about off the coasts.

Looks like Euro had a decent shift to the west. Other models still have it east.

Now Atlanta gonna get it...

These shifts west ever since this morning are concerning. There is still 3-4 more days for more continued westward shifts. Everyone along the coasts still need to be vigilante.
