This would be best case as that is largely uninhabited land. It would mean Miami gets the NE quadrant but it might be far enough away to not get the worst. 20-40 miles in landfall will make a huge difference.

Still room to trend farther west over the next couple of days.
is this Euro trying to put the Gulf back in play?
(ducks for numerous downvotes)

This might be a dumb question, but when was the last time a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane hit a major city head on like that?

I am not trying to say I told you so, but I told you so. This MF'er is going more west than WNW and this model update looks to confirm that.
"I told you so" doesn't work when it's based off of a feeling

rds should Tampa be concerned by this new model run?
Not rds, but Tampa should have stayed concern considering they're in the cone. This is the reason Levi and other mets have been so adamant that the specific spaghetti models can be deceiving when it comes to the uncertainty.

well katrina hitting n.o. is closest that comes to mind and i think it can be argued A) N.O. isn't major and B) Katrina wasn't a 4 or 5 hitting city.

Wow. This run annihilates the entire state of Florida.
ETA: def further West than previous runs.

Gd, that is not what I wanted to see. My guess is that they are make us evacuate here in Tampa soon after that model track.

this point can NOT be argued
it was a 3 at landfall... but was still toting 4-5 level storm surge

But New Orleans didn't get the eyewall, right?

Is there anything in this picture indicating the atmospheric condition that's supposed to pull this thing straight northward at this point in time?
