The lowest pressure ever recorded was 870 for Typhoon Tip. Max winds were 190 MPH.

They're projecting Jose to become a major hurricane (winds 130+) by the weekend and threaten the lesser Antilles then turn toward the Atlantic and do a loop back to the south. Who knows after that

You start thinking about how it's a giant ball of fluid with a whole bunch of heat being exchanged and it's amazing how they ever got close to being right before computers.

in a bit over 5.5 hours in the storm... AF305 found Irma moved +0.5N +1.2 W

and surface pressure fell 8 mb during that same time frame
