Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that this thing plays out according to the model below, with the eye passing just to the east of Miami. How much of a "break" would Miami catch being just west of the eye? What kind of conditions would Miami see?

It's just not worth the risk involved to stay.

Also,Stuff you just don't about happening, roof coming down, tree through the house, say medical attention is needed, tough situation where you're are there and nobody can come help.

I rode out Katrina and Wilma in Lauderdale. We lost power for a total of 26 days from both storms combined. We didn't have shutters, plywood or a generator and we were fine.

I didn't realize that Katrina or Wilma were Cat 5.

I will say, my little cbs home built in 1960 in north palm beach with its low pitched roof it a fricking bunker. If I didn't have 2 young kids and a pregnant wife I'd probably stick it out.

Man, you have to grab your mom and haul arse... you are not prepared for this, and are in serious trouble... 185mph isn't anything to be stubborn about... and neither is/are the week(s) of apocalypse surroundings of no water food or help that follow... this isnt a cat2... this thing is unholy hell headed your way... it's life or death, and there are no do overs.... you can't call timeout

Please leave and go somewhere safe.... your mom may be mad, but you both will be alive to discuss it

Morgan City? I don't remember it being a huge issue for New Orleans, and in Baton Rouge I actually remember going outside and throwing a football around once it was finished with the winds around 4 pm. We only lost power for a few hours. Didn't think it was a huge setback for the state except Morgan City.

As far as water, fill your bathtub(s) as well. And, those little south Florida homes are bomb proof if a surge doesn't get them, as they have been battle tested. Hold your head up and go grab some food. Good luck.

What they are telling you, please. Houston is getting a lot of Harvey's thunder but towns where he came ashore had a rough go of it and he was no Irma

anyone thinking they can ride this out has lost it, this thing is a 50-60 mile wide EF4 tornado, just look at the videos of south florida after andrew in 92' thats what it'll look like again where ever this thing decides to go, i'd do EVERYTHING possible to get the hell out. if it all shakes out the way it looks.

Not much at all. Just because the eye doesn't hit it directly doesn't mean it won't get really bad for a while.

I'm suddenly having flashbacks to every interview of hurricane refugees saying "why didn't anybody give us warning to leave?" All those people in Houston were mad at the mayor for not ordering an evacuation.

If anybody in Florida is looking for a sign, here it is. Leave. Now. Before the interstates grid lock up, take PTO and drive somewhere else.

Same. We left our house that was about 3/4 of a mile off the beach in Long Beach and we're in more danger in Hattiesburg. Tornadoes everywhere.
