I just don't understand how something that big, that powerful, makes a 90 degree turn north...

This is going to be the scariest moment for those of us in the Gulf when Irma is holding on by a kunt hair. 82W 23N it's going to look like it's going into the GOM just look at that!!!

How about no landfalls anywhere, including all of the continental US, Cuba, etc. Or do you only care about your own welfare?

FWIW I've seen about 300 posts begging for it to turn and basically wipe out one of the most populated states in the nation. I think that's a pretty normal response. I have to admit, people here in sfla seem less "puckered " than many further west in this board. Also probably pretty understandable.

Another poster versed in meteorology (quite artfully) said that hurricanes, as strong as they can get, are very beta when it comes to steering currents.

My prediction is that it's going to split the difference and make landfall somewhere near the panhandle, or not make it to that point at all and hug the east coast.

Naples/Marco Island is my favorite place along the Gulf Coast...that place will be destroyed.

What's scary is it's almost past Florida and into the GOM? It's amazing and almost unbelievable it turns like this but will see.

They take very different routes to get there though.

I knew I should have went there this summer. Decided on St Augustine at the last minute.

Because it's not really controlling any of its steering. Everything Irma has done up to this point has been the result of the trade winds and high pressure ridge over the Atlantic, not her own doing.

If I'm going to willingly sacrifice my own house to save the houses of 100 strangers, I should at least be able to attach some reasonable conditions to my generous offer.

No value at all in people clogging up the works to post what they choose to believe will happen based on... nothing really.

"Big strong things, they don't turn none."
