That slow movement and ungodly heavy rainfall as it steadily moves inland is of the biggest concern.
If I remember other central American hurricanes, it's the landslides and mudslides that kill people with those storms. Entire villages can get wiped out.

If I had a quarter for every time I have read Eta as, "Edited to Add" I'd be doing alright.

I'll start by saying God Bless the men & women of the USAF for having the cojones to fly these missions...they unquestionably advance the meteorological sciences with every bit of data they can collect. With that, would you blame the crew one bit if they started talking on takeoff:
Pilot: "Hey - I sure as hell don't wanna fly into this bitch...ya'll with me?"
Crew: "Nope." "Nu-uh." "Hell naw."
Co-Pilot: "Uhhh...Control...we're uhhh...having some issues with a Johnson valve in the uhhh...aft turbocharger...and uhhh, it's causing a wicked shimmy in the inline girder...I think we're out of spec here, so uhhh...we declaring a return to base..."

You think GFS is on something with the constant cocaine sniffing ping ponging back to the west?

Puerto Cabezas is reporting 107 mph G 134 mph at 3:03pm CST (2103Z). I wonder how many consecutive hours of hurricane force they’ve had. It’s gotta be a nightmare there #Eta

It won't get west of Port Eads.

I'm guessing the guys and gals who make those flights, LOVE to make those flights. Gotta be a rush. Some people run away from danger, others run towards it. They have to be in the latter.

I didn’t realize it was that big of a deal as far as danger. I thought they flew over the top of them and dropped transponders into them.

Would it still be called Eta if it goes back into the WCAB and spins back up like that? Or does it just depend on how much it dies over land?

NOLA is about to be back in the cone, albeit the very western edge. Insane that it's November and we're still in here talking about this crap.

Interesting sketch by the NHC artists

Some of the NOAA planes do high altitude reconnaissance of the area around the storm, but those are Gulfstream type jets.
NOAA's other planes and the Air Force's planes, the big cargo looking aircraft that everyone thinks of, fly straight through the eyewall.

It depends, models seem to maintain the system enough that it can be clearly tracked back to Eta and that is what the NHC seems to be favoring.

No doubt. What kind of fearful flyer would be psycho enough to sign up for that job?
Here's what I picture the HH flights to be like...Rick Ducommun nails it. Didn't realize he passed in 2015.
