also, he's really only concerned with anchoring down the edge of the roof so it didnt fly off. hence the 2x4s across the bottom lip

I have always wondered why more people don't do this. Personally I would have had some lateral support under the straps but I have seen way to many homes destroyed because of a window/door blown in and the roof being lifted from the walls.

board up the windows and strap down the roof to give it some more support... may not be the worst idea on Earth

That is what I'm interested because of the watershed.

Which watershed you lookin for, baw?

I may be talking out of my arse, but one thing that might help the Carolinas with this rain is a little thing called the Eastern Continental Divide. At least all the rain north and west of it will drain toward the Mississippi and not back down into the rest of the Carolinas.

also that the dunes are higher than the storm surge will get should keep the cities from too much flooding

What is the anchoring there, though? Looks like glorified tent stakes.

I imagine these are just some kind of corkscrew/auger anchor if I had to guess. The auger does provide some protection against uplift and is made for use in sand.

They make an anchor kind of like a sheetrock screw. It is pushed in by a bobcat and then pulled up. When it is being lifted a metal section opens up pushing into the sand to help prevent uplift. We have used it on docks before. I think the brand name we used was called platapus, but it had a none traditional spelling.

same thing you use to keep the dog in your yard when you don't have a fence

except instead of attaching a leash to it... attach a ratchet strap

I'd imagine a little longer and wider?

Could the soil underneath be more like rock or what?

Damn this alone should awaken anyone who thinks it's a good idea to stay when they tell you to evacuate.

The only problem is all of South Carolina, and all but a very small portion of North Carolina are on the Atlantic Basin side of the Eastern Divide.
