I can't even fathom an 83 foot wave.
I guess I can, having seen videos of Jaws in Maui and that ridiculous break in Portugal. But it's hard to imagine what those blue water hurricane waves are like (and we'll probably never really know)

The Air Force aircraft currently flying through #Florence just measured hurricane force surface winds in a band about 90 miles northeast of the center of the storm. Florence is big. Dangerous storm surge and winds will extend hundreds of miles from the eye, and rain even farther
For the billy badasses out there staying.

That's impressive, for the usual strong storm you'd expect about a 50 mile stretch of Hurricane force winds

is anyone else bummed at a stall and southward shift?
Posted on 9/12/18 at 9:52 am to 50_Tiger
When they give wind distance (or whatever it's called) of say 200 miles, that's the whole way across correct so 100 to each side from the center, correct? No way it's from the center to each side .. I know I should know this.

Purple is hurricane force wind @ flight level.

It's a diameter of wind. Typically not symmetric, with the northern part extending farther than the southern part.

Yes. Double it then divide by two across the radius of the hypotenuese.
