Yeah...it’s gonna’ be windy. If power goes out, you’ll wish you had moved inland.

Wish you the best. Hope this thing fizzles.

I have a buddy in the Air Force and he lives in Newport News. The talk of potential 10 ft storm surge has him worried. He has asked me if he should stay or leave. Anyone with any knowledge on this?

10 feet of surge plus rain = gtfo in that area. All the waterways will be crazy.

rds pic from the eye is eerily gorgeous. God I hate these things ... I have a knot in my stomach for all of these people.

To me, if anyone is wondering "stay" or "go" just GO.

I think Levi may have written off Isaac too early. He's looking much healthier the last few hours. Outflow is starting to look really good too.

After seeing what Katrina did, I have no sympathy for those that want to ride out a storm of this magnitude with today’s technology.

Apparently you don’t know about the tunnel he’ll have to go through in Norfolk. It’s that or a bridge that’s going to be backed up as far as the eye can see.

Then head west.

Point being, surge is the bigger concern right now for extreme southeastern VA. The NHC would need a pretty big miss for winds to be a problem in VA.

Eyewall replacement cycle about to start, once this is complete, the eye will be much larger AND the windfield will expand, thus the area of damage will be larger and more area will be exposed to the highest surge.

Will those barrier islands help at all with a storm this powerful? About as well as Dauphin Island and Horn Island did to protect AL and MS mainland.

Once you have a mile plus of water between two land masses, wind driven waves have enough fetch (distance) to regenerate destructive sized waves. At that point, the only limiting factor is water depth. Rule of thumb in coastal engineering is that a depth limited wave height tops out at a height of ~70% of the water depth before breaking. The issue is, with surge, you have increased water depth and thus it’s possible for higher waves assuming wind isn’t a limiter.

, Isaac has probably had the coldest cloud tops (most intense convection) of the three named storms, but it can't get its shite together from a structural standpoint. It's likely to be torn apart in the Caribbean OR out to sea across PR.

I'm all for it getting ripped up. My stomach seriously is in knots for the East coast. I remember waiting for Katrina and then Rita ... God Lord it was all awful.
