All lanes lead out of town. Tomorrow, all cars in the pic will be facing the same direction - away from the coast.

When all lanes of traffic are flowing in a single direction to move people much quicker.

They turn all lanes of whichever interstate that goes into and out of a coastal area to flow outbound. So traffic in the lanes that normally take you toward the coast is flowing away from the coast.

You do not have to apologize for that question.

If you’ve never lived near the coast or Tiger Stadium I don’t think you’d see it often

Correct. Contraflows are typically clusterfricks due to the mental capacity of those that wait too long to leave.

I lived on the coast in NC, but it was never a threat like this when I was there and also to many ppl there. This thing is sad and I feel so bad for that area and the places I have memories at. I give it up to you folks that have ever endured this. I've seen bad weather out there that had high waters I can imagine what's going to happen to this area. :(

The people who live will rebuild if they can afford it, and if enough of the infrastructure stays intact.

They need to leave if they can, though, now.

I would imagine most of the coastal building resemble what you see here with them built up on pilings.

If not, it could be real bad

, good point.

Evacuating has killed more people than the storms have sometimes.

Umm only on the coast ~ some actually, not all. But towns are close and regular slab to what have ya types, but it's small old areas. Will be lots of tree damage from winds, but hopefully that slows it down. Roads are pretty good - like new in NC coast. South of the border in SC will probably be lots of water. Myrtle Beach will be damaged good and you have all the other communities north/south east/west. Lots of rural roads past coast.

Dunno, I’ve never been to NC except for the CLT airport. Everything in coastal LA, Ms, AL and Florida that isn’t a condo is built up off the ground. I would imagine lower east coast buildings are the same

The stilt houses on the gulf never seem to hold up.

Lots of very old concrete block beach bungalows on the east coast and in FL that have stood the test of time although I think NC might trend more towards the stilt style.

How bad is this going to mess up the beaches & dunes? Anyone care to explain what damage is done there?

Road construction doesn’t matter. It can/will wash away large swaths of road. Water is the most dangerous force on earth. Hope this bitch turns out to sea
