Not all that different from Hugo. Sort of forgotten in these discussions?
Obviously a much more traditional Cape Verde storm with a more southerly track but the intensity and landfall projections are similar.

Spoiler alert, there is a reading of 62.4" in essentially 72 hours mixed in that dark bronze blob about 100 miles off the Outer Banks

Climate change proponents have been warning about sea level rise.

Is there a more nightmarish scenario than that?

It doing that over Manhattan? Couldn't imagine riding out that scenario nearish the coast. It'd be like dodgeball with 2x4s out of an air cannon.

It's pretty outlandish but continues to increase the flood concerns in my mind. Models do crazy things like this when there's nothing to move the storm.

Wouldn’t this be something similar to Harvey where it just sits and dumps a ton of rain?

Yeah, the 12z Euro has 12" in 24 hours for Wilmington and spread 15-20+" totals over most of Virginia.

Total accumulated rainfall from 12z Euro through 7AM Tuesday.

Rainfall totals before Florence comes inland at 10am Thursday:

I'd officially be worried now if I lived on the NC coast.

I think the NHC’s track is solid and it will likely hit northern SC or southern NC.

Looks like Florence wants a big TV audience. Gonna make landfall in primetime on Thursday.

Florence has such a wacky path. It's been wandering around up "north" but it's still below Miami's latitude.

18z Early Cycle Tracks - still a nice OTS grouping, maybe Climo can pull the win?

That much rain in those mountains would be calamitous

Happy Hour GFS going with the flattening the outer Banks solution.

Getting about time to start watching the storm structure too. Strengthening phase about to start in earnest.

I think they changed their official recognized name to Cabo (it is Portuguese) a couple years ago.
