Worst hurricanes to ever hit BR Ordered on a time line. The worst varies by your perception from the impacts you received.
Betsy
Andrew
Gustav
I remember Andrew and Gustav vividly. My personal perception is that Andrew and Gustav were equal. Both brought extreme wind damage. My dad says Betsy was worse than both of them.

This storm is going to side swipe the east FL coast like Matthew. Will still do some damage to coastal areas.

My daughter sent the text. UF is officially closed on Tuesday.

The eye of Betsy passed over our house in Belle Chasse, we were VERY lucky that the worst of the house damage was from water seeping through the putty on the windows...
My dad spent Betsy tied up at the Freeport Suplhur Dock at Port Sulphur...

Can a hurricane do a complete circle and it the same place twice
Juan did that to Grand Isle in 1985.

120 kt winds about 1600 feet up. That's 138 MPH, the highest I've seen sampled at any altitude thus far for Dorian.

Pow pow dug a 1.5 acre pond at the camp in SW Miss the week before Juan. Juan filled up the pond. Couldnt have had better timing.

I'm not hung up on it, but Michael was more powerful than Katrina by nearly every metric. Stronger winds, lower pressure, similar storm surge. Katrina was obviously a much more costly storm due to the densely populated areas impacted
Michael was more like Camille than Katrina. CAmille was super strong, but relatively small, like Michael was.

That's pretty damned high. I would like to see this graph again once this pig hits the hot water for a few days. It has been about 3 degrees hotter than hell and might perk it right up.

That and Katrina was a more powerful storm based on the Hurricane Severity Index, which takes into account size and intensity. Katrina also had a much larger storm surge spread out over a much larger area.

Deal with this storm that far inland or deal with kids who have been excited about a Disney trip for the last 6 months but now aren’t going?
I’ll roll the dice on the storm. Especially if I didnt buy trip insurance

Will it be possible to NOT have asinine "LSU - Florida game postponed" replies?

There's some lightning in the eyewall over the past hour, another sign of strengthening. Which some of those sonde readings have been confirming

Watching The Watching Channel 12:00 update. They are saying a “ Escape Route has opened up to allow Dorian to head out to sea.”
I hope this is true, but a lot of people will be pissed about the hysteria & expenses caused by the spin.

I've been playing with the My Radar App lately, and it has a couple of cool feature for a free app.
Switch to the globe format, add on the fronts feature, turn on wind and satellite. It gives a good representation of the curvature of the earth (if you believe in such things), positioning of fronts and ridges along with the wind map. It helps to get a general idea of steering features.
ETA: Only replied to you because your's was the post I was on at the time.
