Some people never learn. My in-laws are just south of Tampa. Don’t want to leave because of traffic.
They Lost everything in Katrina on MS coast. Was sitting on roof in Avondale after Andrew when I picked them up.
Can’t force people do what they don’t want to do. Wife is preparing herself for the loss of her mother.

Man that would suck. Just moved to SW FL. Used to hurricane threats from SE GA but have a feeling this is gonna be different

Your in-laws have had some terrible hurricane history. I wouldn't be terribly worried on the west coast of FL yet, but given your inlaws' track record, leaving would make sense.

Icon model is taking it through Miami and then northward through central/western Florida.

I'm just west of Tampa. Where would you suggest to go? Go north and then have the storm shift north and you are worse off?

The Gulf ensembles are a very weak version of Dorian. They're very unlikely as of now.

What would force that hard right turn in the gulf? I always have a good feeling about the gfs

West of Tampa could be St. Pete.

Since they have a home in NC. They should have left 72 hours ago.
These are not people hurting for money. They have resources.
They are being stupid

Meh... Florida is prepared for such storms. 8 major hurricanes slugged em in 16 months in 2004/2005...so they got this.

If u leave Tampa you are an idiot. That thing if it hit as a cat 5 on the east side would be a cat 2 on the west side..and Tampa can easily handle that.

I lived there during that time and went through 2 Cat 3's and a strong Cat 2 in 6 weeks. From first hand experience I can tell you it's no fun.
I was without power for 7 days after Charley and after Frances, I literally couldn't get to my house because the road was flooded, and it stayed flooded because Jeanne followed right behind it. I couldn't get to my house for almost 2 months.
Luckily a buddy of mine let me stay at his place for as long as I needed to but we lost power there too but no structural damage, as his house was newly built.
I literally lived off cheese in a spray can and hot dogs from the gas station near Disney because the power lines there are underground and this was when I was able to get to my house. That was the worst thing that happened to me, my power being out for an extended time and the road to my house was flooded but the house itself was fine.
The closer it got, the local PD closed roads. You couldn't go anywhere. Not in a car at least, even if you felt like driving to the ER because of anxiety.
It's no fun at all and I don't want to go through that ever again, and I was lucky. Several people here lost more than that in storms that affected the Louisiana coast.
I think of my friends that are still there and I wish them well and to stay safe. It is absolutley no fun and it's nerve wracking.
All I'm trying to say is that because someone lives in Florida, doesn't mean "they got this." It's no different than it happening anywhere else.
Enough said. Not trying to start a big argument. Just go easy on that stuff.
Sorry for the temporary hijack of the thread.

Checking in from the Naples/Fort Myers area. Rainfall and flooding are my concern. We have had a wetter summer than usual, and after the tropical storm/Irma direct hit, we had flood waters for 2 months here. Gas stations are already running low, if not empty. Lawn crews prepping for their usual rounds and aftermath cleanup and people filling cans for generators. I doubt many are evacuating because, go where? Head north?
