Not to mention the firehouse into SC back in 2015.

Hell we still haven't recovered 100% from that here in Cola.

My concern is the high pressure ridge currently above it moves east, then moves back west after Dorian has made it's move west, cutting it off from moving north and pushing it further south and west, then the high coming in from Texas pinches against the other ridge of high pressure and holds it in the GOM in a basically stationary position for 24-36 hours, then both high-pressure ridges recede and Dorin is out there as a monster after revving up in the much warmer waters of the GOM than it currently over now. That's pretty much worst case scenario.

FFS. You left out the comet and the asteroid.

Exactly. It's possible it can slip further westward in the GOM. It's way too early to be saying it's not a Gulf threat when you're almost 5 days out from landfall...

Which would be secondary to the comet strike. Of course, the presence of a hurricane might protect some areas from the ash they would normally receive from Yellowstone.

wish people would stop being so hardheaded on climate change. I'm not saying this is happening here but there's absolutely no denying that climate changing is happening around the world.

I'm not going to respond to any replies to this because this thread does not need to devolve into a climate debate.

Climate change is happening and humans are absolutely having an impact. No one system can be chalked up to it. It's looking at frequency of things like high precip events, the trend of higher overnight low temperatures, ECT.

quote:

What you CAN'T say is humans are solely responsible for climate change because there's not enough scientific evidence to back that claim up

There's plenty of evidence human activity is a significant driver. The more difficult part is how sensitive the climate is to the additional CO2 because there's a complicated set of feedback mechanisms. I'd encourage anyone curious to check out places like Carbon Brief and skeptical science to read more. Additionally, Ryan Maue is a good follow when climate change stories come up. He's a conservative and takes a good faith approach to his skepticism of climate projections.

quote:

That said, I'd rather attempt to do something about it rather than twiddle my thumbs laughing at all the big corporations trying to make money on it. At least try and see if conditions can improve?

Absolutely but the how is important. It's also too deep of a dive for this thread and would certainly open up a debate that shouldn't be in a hurricane thread.

With that, I'm not touching the subject of climate change again.

I enjoy his Twitter feed. I'm on the climate change boat, but it's refreshing to see critical analysis on the subject from another point of view.
