Damn shame that a thread, as useful as this one, always gets on the verge of being derailed by someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Thanks for the link. Don't know who that guy is but he is easy to understand.

Assuming he knows what he's saying, he's way better than the TV weather talking heads.

Haven’t seen an update. I saw that video.

The main thing that I personally took away from the video is how happy I am to have installed impact windows this year. Those things were holding up like a champ at his place. And I’m a few miles from the water in south Florida. Hopefully he’s riding it out ok.

Really just mindblowing that people can't comprehend that many, many people do not have the means to evac in a situation.

Most people are living paycheck to paycheck barely making ends meet. How the frick are these people supposed to just up and leave for 2-3 days and pay for gas, hotel, food, etc?

That's not even touching the people who live out on these islands that have literally no options for leaving the island.

Maybe put a little back in case of emergency? Oh I forgot we cant encourage poor people to save for emergencies.

As Ben Shapiro said. Poor people are poor because they are....bad with money.

The worst hit areas of Abaco, and almost certainly the highest death toll, are in areas where people basically live in shanty towns. How much money do you think they have to put extra away.

People in the US have absolutely no idea of what true poverty is.

I agree with this. And again I’m talking about people living in the US, with a career, who choose not to leave because the Hilton may not accept their pets.

On a side note: to whomever posted that FB video a couple pages back. Holy hell that house is a tank. I can’t even imagine being there through that

Hurricane Hunters are currently in Dorian. Thus far the strongest winds are around 110mph, which is high-end Category 2 strength. I would expect to see this go down to Category 3 at the next advisory.

That fatality looks like a child to me. I should’ve read the description first before clicking the link.

So how far from Florida to the islands by boat??? How far/how long of a trip? Landing a plane won't work -- helicopters I guess but I'm guessing supply boats will be sent with relief items??

I'd imagine that the Navy is going to send the Comfort.

What? The storm is weakening right now, you can see it on the satellite and radar (though, I doubt you would know anything about what you're looking at). That's why it will be downgraded, not because it was never a Cat 5.

Good news. Any chance of strengthening again? I’m assuming it’s getting ready to take that turn north now.
