Interesting. So Dorian has sped up (from 5 to 6, so not like a lot) from this afternoon.

Looks like the heading has been more like 265 (just s of due W) for the last three recon fixes.

He's currently off of "path" of the NHC by a smidge.

Dont wanna trigger a certain individual so ill leave it at that.

It would make me nervous in Freeport but it doesn't change much for the big picture. The stall and turn will come, the physical reasons why it will make complete sense. The subtleties of how far west it makes it before turning and the exact steering matter to eastern Florida but we're not there yet.

The big picture path, slow generally west ---> stall ----> turn NW, N, and eventually NE is going to happen.

Went to fill up on gas tonight (car plus 17 extra gallons for car/generator). No need to worry about the mad dash tomorrow.

Sorry, but my young daughter wants to know if the island with the pigs on it is OK.

I'm going to tell her yes, but curious if I'm lying or not.

TIA

Any conclusion to the small forward lunge Duke?

He went from 5 to 6 and has maintained the 265ish deg track almost all day.

Looking at the NHC track, he should be north of Freeport by 5pm tm.

Agreed. But until it makes that turn, East coast of FL is sweating bullets. I think I understand the fundamentals of what’s going to drive that turn but if that 2nd ridge(?) comes in weaker than expected, the north turn might be too late to avoid Florida landfall, correct? I think this is the fear.

Are you talking about Abaco? If so, we don’t know. Haven’t heard from island in 6+ hours when the west wall moved in.

That area is in the southern Bahamas (Exuma), it’s the northern Bahamas that are taking the core of Dorian. So, yes, that area should be okay.

It may depend on how well the pigs can swim. And I'm serious, unfortunately.

I don’t think pigs’ legs are long enough to get the power needed to avoid heavy currents.

Yes, they are fine. Seriously.

Edit: I assumed you are talking about Pig Beach in the South Exuma chain?

How about wild speculation?

Storms over Florida today may have short term weakened the upper ridge a bit and it recovered a little as they faded.

Maybe.

The stall is coming though. The general trend of forward motion should be down over the next 18 hours.

Ummm, won’t she ask about pigs and other animals in the affected area? Maybe you should just say they are fine and not in the impacted area.

Though he didn't mention it tonight, Levi said that any increase in speed, even 1 mph could result in a shift west of as much as 75 miles. Not sure if he was talking time-specific in Dorian's approach or not. But he made note of it.

There are also wild pigs on the Abacos - Green Turtle Cay for one. I think those islands were/are completely submerged.
