Looks like we have a Hurricane Floyd in the making.

What an epic shite show that was.

You're bitching about people relying on message board posters instead of the experts. But you're also bitching that those same posters are just regurgitating what the NHC says.

It’s frightening how so many people put their lives in the words of what people post on a message board vs actual hurricane experts

Pat Shingleton was the biggest gun of weather men in BR. He was there for about 35 years. When he had been there a short time, somebody from the Manship Clan did not like him. He married a girl that was the daughter of a prominent family. He started Backyard BBQ's with weather themes. He got people to donate thousands of coats to kids.

He had a Journalism degree and was never a meteorologist, or pro.

those aren't always mutually exclusive

they sometimes frick up too. 2 hours ago the NHC put out a cat 3 advisory for Dorian and immediately had to update it to a cat 4...
to be fair that's something that happens to every meteorologist... you queue up a forecast to send and some new data comes in at the last few minutes, and it's published before you can update it.

I don't know, therefore I cannot watch him. He may be just trying to throw me in the trick bag with his spiel.

Voodoo, and whatnot.

If this thing goes up I95 I’m so screwed. That puts my house on the NE side where it will be a strong Cat 2.

I really need this to move about 50 offshore by the time it goes by St Augustine.

Consensus is that it's going to hug the coast pretty much?

Obligatory N.O. track. Seriously, this must be some sort of inside joke with weathermen.

Bay is probably the most credentialed pro met here when it comes to hurricanes

I don't think I count as "here" anymore though. I just drive by from time to time.

But I don't wanna hijack this thread, I just wanted to dunk on the NHC not giving a last-second look to their advisory before hitting send.

That's what I'm saying, you can't tell me they couldn't wait 10 minutes. Literally immediately after the advisory (and before) there were unflagged 114 kt surface winds.

(and the dude who did the calculations for the 2016 flood -- he helped a TON of people but can't recall his name)
