Methinks they'll find a pressure much lower than 970 whenever they finally get back in to investigate:

The wind speed they tell us is always about 25-30 mph faster than it actually is to scare people.

The wind speed is measured at 10m and it usually done over open water. It's understandable that land speeds are going to be much lower due to friction and height.

I do think I read that they're setting intensity different these days than they used to. Something like they go with the absolute max reading they find instead of using an intensity that's more consistent throughout.

This is starting to look like it’s going to skirt off the coast and be a nothingburger like Matthew.

From the looks of this tracking, it is shifting north and to the east. By the time this arrives, it may stay off the coast and head up towards South Carolina.

I'd hate to see your idea of a something burger.

Matthew killed people with flooding rainfall in th Carolinas. People don’t evacuate for hurricanes because of rainfall. The media acted like the state of Florida would be wiped off the map. Of course it wasn’t.

I know people here in NB that had their roofs and walls ripped off. Houses in PVB and Vilano fell into the ocean. And that area has yet to really recover after Matthew and Irma.

But it was a nothing burger.

Hurricane Gilbert (1988) was suppose to turn into the upper Texas coast mid September but was said to have been so large that it influenced its own environment and hit northern Mexico instead of of curving northwestward.

The ridge over the US grew though. Hurricanes are always looking to escape to the north and then northeast due to beta drift. They want to go that direction and they will as soon as a road block gets out of their way (high pressure).

Hell, we've seen hurricanes do circles because of high pressure building around them. They simply do not dictate their own direction - high pressure and troughs do.

It stayed just off the coast thankfully. It was pretty bad for many here.
