I wouldn’t mind living in the country a little ways with some land to raise chickens. I’m not stuck on some tract home communities. But my #1 priority is the school system for the kids.
My brother lives out in Sharps Cove off Ryland Pike. They just put several 5 acre lots up for sale around him. The area is beautiful and about 20 minutes from the Arsenal. I would love to move out there but I work at BFN and it's an hour commute. The price of housing is skyrocketing all around the area. I'm in Athens on Mooresville Rd. and the house next door to me sold for full asking price in 14 days for $279,900. That's insane to me for a subdivision house on 3/4 acre.

I live near downtown and send my kids to public school. The alleged issues stated on this thread are hugely over blown. Owens Cross roads will get you a lot of house for your money, but the commute over the mountain would annoy the shite out of me.
Madison is clean, affluent and has a good school system. It is very generic though.
If looking in Huntsville city limits, blossomwood, Jones valley, twickingham, the medical district, old town, and Piedmont areas are where I would choose to live. The school districts for these places are still very good.

I work across the street from UAH and live in Morgan County - Priceville / Hartselle area. Easy access to I-56 makes the commute easy at 25 minutes most days. Occasionally gets backed up some in the evening if you wait till rush hour to get on 565 but still less than 45 minutes tops.
Hartselle schools are excellent and home prices in the area are reasonable.

Live in Huntsville (Madison sucks) but send your kids to private school. Downtown area or Jones Valley are the best neighborhoods.

This. Add in Monte Sano, Goldsmith Schifman and Hampton cove ele and Middle. Huntsville High hasnt changed a bit.
I have friends that are teachers in Madison school district that live in HSV and would rather send their kid to Blossomwood... Plus Madison sucks, no since of community, cookie cutter houses, terrible traffic and nothing to do.
The downtown area is growing, lots of new development and housing prices keep getting stronger in your 35801 and 35802.
I see quite a few LSU flags flying in Blossomwood.

You’ll need to consider Hartselle, then.

My best friend lives there currently and works in the area where 431/72 meets, and I listen to her bitch about the Cecil Ashburn closing at least 3xs a week.

Athens City Schools>>>Hartselle City Schools
FFS, Athens City has all of their Elementary Schools broken down in to specialty schools...
One is for Health/Science
One is for Fine Arts
One is for Math/Engineering

I agree on Madison too. Relatives went through their schools. A great sports program as well.

Any recommendations on areas to live?
Stay away from East Limestone or Athens, please.

When the hell did this happen?
My cracker arse had a regular education at James L. Cowart. Are you saying they have specialized curriculum at Brookhill, Athens, Julian Newman, and Cowart?

This is interesting...I mean it’s elementary school but I guess it’s nevwr too early to push these kids academically.
Do you know which school is which I regards to the specialities?

Nvm I see on their website it’s
iAcademy at Athens Elementary
FAME Academy at Brookhill
HEART Academy at Julian Newman
SPARK Academy at Cowart

I have no clue, but the new HS facility is badass.
Property in Athens and along 72 E towards Huntsville are appreciating rapidly. You will get better value there than in MadCo and will have a decent bit of equity in no time.
The Square and historic district are already nice, but it has the potential to be a postcard town with the right leadership. I swear to God if they just let everything develop in a cookie cutter manner I am going to slit throats.

Sad to hear. It just seemed with the high tech space program there the school system would reflect that.
