Moving this way in the April to May timeframe. Any recommendations on areas to live? Best school district for elementary aged kids? Gyms?

If you're going to be working on Redstone or Research Park, I'd say Madison.

Madison is right.

Huntsville city schools are under a deseg order, so any kid in a failing school can transfer anywhere. It's made each school worse in the last few years.

I was shocked at how bad Grissom has become.

When I went there it was still one of the top schools in the state. Now? Not so much.

I have a younger brother that graduated out of there recently. He told me once that every month or so there was a big fight.

I think I remember one fight in the four years I was there.

Now I will say they've really bought into STEM in the last few years. Kids have opportunities to learn drafting, 3d printing, cyber security, etc. I still don't think I could put my kids there, whenever they stop being swimmers that is.

Ya I saw that. Unfortunately it's hard for kids to take advantage of those learning opportunities when they're constantly distracted by culcha doing culcha things.

I liked living in 5 Points but I’m not sure about how the schools are.

Madison city has the best schools. A lot of the Madison County schools are good too. My daughter goes to Monrovia Middle. It's a pretty good school.

But, madison traffic sucks arse. For such a small little area, it's pretty bad. If you're accustomed to big cities, it won't be a big deal. But, if you're used to the speed limit dictating how long it will take you to get home, Madison might be an adjustment there. It was a little farming community that has become the suburbs for a huge part of Huntsville's work force. The road infrastructure hasn't caught up.

Huntsville used to be a great place to grow up and go to school.

But the Federal Government broke the school system, and it is terrible.

Madison is now what Huntsville was 15 years ago.

If you have kids move to Madison.

I used to live for a very short period of time about 9 years ago in Madison off Wall Triana and Douglass.

Someone recommended Owen’s Crossing?

First off...welcome to Huntsville.

We don't have children but if we did...we'd probably would have chosen Madison, even though my wife works in the H'ville medical area. Getting to RSA is easy from either the Hampton Cove area where we are now or Madison..so my travel isn't an issue. Currently the only travel issue I deal with is the Cecil Ashburn shutdown for 10-14 months while they 4 lane that mountain pass road.

As far as what I've seen in kids...Madison kids seemed to be more disciplined on the football field (only interaction I've had with that age group).

I can't say for certain about gyms in the Madison area...I know they have a relatively new YMCA there...and I'm sure there are some privately owned gyms. We are getting a brand new gym here....Goldsmith Schiffman Elementary has a nice one.

Owens Cross Roads actually. Not a bad area. That's where my sister currently lives. It's going to be a bit of a commute though.

Initially I’ll be a full time student at UAH, but eventually transitioning to Redstone.

Lol at people that keep moving around to shitty southern towns and having to worry about things like poverty, crime, and shitty schools.

Owen's Crossroads is a nicer suburb, but there are a couple issues there. The Walmart there is the closest place to New Hope, which is nicknamed "No Hope" because it's largely a meth town. That's not a huge issue normally, as they don't mess with the actual suburbs, but Cecil Ashburn, the main road into town, is closed right now for construction.

If you live in a big city and are used to big city traffic it's probably not a huge deal to you, but for most people who have lived on that side for years it's incredibly inconvenient.

Transferred there after spending some time at State. Was a great decision for me. May get my masters there while I'm in town. What program, if you don't mind me asking?

Huntsville schools are just now buying into STEM education? I thought that area would be a leader in this.
