I was initially worried about Cousin Eddie, but then I remembered he had the plate in his head replaced with plastic due to the metal plate’s side effects.

What?! This made me want to take it up. You could say, this article even attracted me to it...

It’s enough to sink a fresh body but not once it bloats. Would take a good bit more than that to keep one from floating.

I've always thought it looked fun as shite!

Probably just get a bunch of beer cans though.

Beer cans are aluminum, so not magnetic

I worked as a mussel diver back in the 90s.
One of the guys I dove around, crawled up on a dead body on 2 different occasions.
He had a gift I guess.

Yes of course. Coming across a dead body on 2 different occasions happens all the time. He totally did not have a guilty conscience about what he knew.

They only needed to sink a head with the teeth removed. The rest of the body was probably dumped somewhere else.

Yea the image of a sack with a padlock and a skull inside with teeth left behind certainly comes with implications that seem lost on some here

I remember the first one was an accidental drowning that happened up the river and the body had washed downstream. I talked to him about that one.
The second one, he had started diving in a different area from me, I don't remember the details, but he wasn't involved in any way. Just bad luck.

I’m not gonna Google it, but I’m curious is the 15 pound weight sufficient to sink a human body?

That depends on if it's an African or European body.

everyone’s physiology is different but, on average, 15 pounds should be sufficient…

Note to self....use rocks for weight...not metal
yep. don't use any containers or something non-permeable if not using rocks. If it's non-permeable (e.g. drum, bucket of concrete) it may build up air/gasses and become boyant.

Non-metallic rocks are the best.

The specific gravity of ordinary portlland cement concrete is around 2.40.

Never, in the history of history has a sunken bucket of concrete in a natural environment built up gasses and floated.

It would be just as likely for the Titanic wreck to just float up.

(well, if you can't take a facetious post at face value... here 'ya go).

approx. 3.15 actually. Until you mix it... if you mix it heavy at say 16.5 ppg you're going to end up at around 2.0 SG

Cement shrinks as it cures. It is also exothermic which may cause other matter to decay, releasing gasses.

If it is in a bucket that shrinkage may cause an air gap, assuming you even managed to fill the bucket 100% and don't already have an air gap, that will create buoyancy. Add that to the buoyancy of a decomposing body and the gasses contained within it's not so effective. Then you have the issue of the displaced water by volume of something at 2.0 (or 2.4 if you prefer). The lower that SG, the more volume, the more volume, the more water displaced- creating even more buoyancy.

Pro tip: make sure the gut and both sides of the chest cavity (near the lungs) is thoroughly punctured, both intestines, before dumping. The body will still make gas and trap some, but the majority will be in the chest cavity and gut turning it into a balloon.
