Whit Cox also states he wishes to use climate change bullshite to keep people poor.

Southern Renewable Energy Association is nothing more than a lobbying group for a bunch of solar and wind power companies. Their focus is the rural South, so I assume their goal is to fill those rural areas with solar farms.

Whit Cox is politically connected and experienced in the PSC sector. He’s not a billionaire, but he works for some.

They are building a new power plant in Greenville for new Amazon data centers in Mississippi. Needless to say, Greenville is thrilled about it because it's plant was old and about to be decommissioned

AI is causing utilities to bend the knee to traditional power generation, at least they are building the plant rather than trying to rely on solar farms while shutting down other traditional power plants, it really is causing a crunch on their "green" energy initiatives

Big Tech has been pushing for green energy for years and made this monster. It’s funny how it’s coming full circle and now that they need real horsepower they are turning back to baseload, dispatchable, human-controlled energy sources.

At this rate I wouldn’t be surprised if tech companies start to build supercritical coal plants. They are cheap and easy to build. First it was “wind and solar can do it”. Now it’s “let’s restart every mothballed nuclear plant”. And now that they see the red tape involved in new nuclear they’re going to turn to natural gas. And with that they’ll eventually get to coal since it’s the cheapest.

1500MW will be one of the biggest power plants in this state and it's SPECIFICALLY for the datacenter

I believe this is correct. I think the largest plant in the state is Nine Mile Point with a nameplate rating of 2400MW. And that one is actually tied into the grid and not only being built for on-site generation for a data center.

I’m not sure I like it going towards huge energy draining AI facilities.

Why? It’s our most abundant source of energy, is the cleanest carbon based fuel by a long shot, and is easily ramped up and down as demand changes.

Yeah...this is horseshite. If the center is going to be using the vast majority of the energy why the hell are we paying for any of it?

talking about dusting off some old books on supercritical boilers some retired boomers are going to get phone calls with huge incentives to come back and work on it

Drove through Columbia today, there’s miles of solar panels out in the farmland now. Such a fricking eye sore.

Renewable energy needs to be part of our future, but it’s not possible for it to be our entire future

Of all the fossil fuel options, natural gas is the cleanest

I’m probably too ignorant on this take, but would rather as much natural gas a possible be sucked up for reliable, cost efficient energy to homes and businesses. We already don’t have the most stable power grid nation-wide for demand, and now these data centers are sucking up HUGE amounts.

company building the Louisiana data center appears to be aware of those concerns and is working with Entergy to offset its emissions

This is the game. If you want to get a power plant built, you have to line leftist pockets.

I don't think the people that wrote this article saw the same election results we did.

The advocate finally broke the story about one of them.

Talking about doing two data centers in New Roads and St Francisville near the power plants. But not $5 billion worth. Maybe $500m.

I’m a fan of nuclear too but the reality is there is a shitload of red tape standing in the way of new nuclear. It is, at a minimum, 5-10 years out. In that timeframe you could build considerable numbers of natural gas and coal plants.

Are they really, when the excrement hits the fan and natty gas supplies become tight again and prices go high again we will all be paying for those high prices.

Reconciled to BTU, proven reserves of US Coal contain more energy than the combined total of all other proven oil and mineral based energy reserves of every other nation on Earth.

Do your homework kids and learn to love coal again. It is flat out retarded to have long term discussions about energy policy without it.
