How would you feel if the wife came home one day with a new car?

Let’s say you talked about it being somewhat time, it was a topic on the radar, but you’ve yet to go look or have any serious talk about it. She brings her current car to the dealership for maintenance one afternoon and comes home with a new car with you having no real decision or idea about it until she pulls up in the driveway?

Happened to my neighbor. They seemed to be laughing about it, but am I too old school to think I’d be pissed beyond belief in this scenario?

My wife would have trouble paying for it while being a single mom.

A purchase of that significance without consulting the other spouse is more than likely an indication of communication issues inside the home between the two.

Either that, or a lack of respect for one another.

Wouldn't happen in my house. My wife hates car dealers and negotiating, and she prefers I handle the maintenance of the vehicles.

But to go a long with the hypothetical, it would not go over well since that is a large financial decision. We don't make those without talking to each other.

I sold cars for a while, and this is taught on day 1! You can usually get people to get a "newer model with the same or an even lower note." It's like shooing fish in a barrel. People don;t care about the 72 months of financing

It may just happen in my household soon. Wife has been harping on getting a new car for about a couple of months now. What she wants and what our budget will allow are not in congruence though, so I've been winning the battle so far. She keeps threatening she's going to just go buy one, but I'm pretty sure she's just bluffing. She's never bought a car herself and the whole process gives her horrible anxiety. I'd honestly be thrilled if she went out and bought one she liked within our budget.

I have found a handful of cars that check almost every box in what she wants, and she always finds one thing she doesn't like about it and nixes it. It's maddening.

I don't know how people fall for this foolishness.

nope to all of those. My wife has her own money, chooses her own vehicles and enjoys shopping for them. I am available for consultation if she chooses, but in the end, it's her decision

I would be ecstatic that she took it on herself to get it done. Hallelujah, something I don't have to do is done.......yay.

My wife works very hard and makes good money, but she would buy something much less expensive than I’d want for her. She’d be happy with a Camry. She drives something much nicer than that though.

Women can make their own financial decisions without having to ask their husband. I have no problem with this at all so long as the purchase doesn't jeopardize their overall financial health.

If my wife traded in her car today and bought a $250k McClaren then we would have a talk.

Wouldn't bother me. We both work and basically buy whatever we want when we want it. If she needs a new car, it wouldn't bother me at all if she went out and bought one and vice versa.

But then again, we're not poor

My wife surprised me with a new truck when I was overseas two years ago. Traded in my old car as well.

Why would you be pissed? I was happy as hell.
