How would the government distinguish between two identical twins?

Assume identical twins have none of their biometric data in any database. One of them is accused of a crime. They both claim to be the innocent one. Is there a standard procedure the government would use to tell them apart (beyond a reasonable doubt)?

I have cousins who are identical twins. We are the same age, but when they were babies their mom had to keep one's toenail painted so she didn't mix them up. When we were younger and would fight and argue that was my go to insult to one of them "you wore nail polish like a girl when you were a baby".

Make them think of a number 1-100. Very small odds that they would both be thinking the same number.

Breaking Bad already covered this. You must kill them both to be sure.

Only matters if DNA evidence is involved.
Otherwise, same evidence as anyone else, no? Whereabouts at certain times, alibis, etc.

If still an issue, jail them both. Same person in two bodies. Cut term in half for each.

Is it me being high? Or does this response make zero sense to the OP?

Different thumbprints though... and there is some kinda next gen biometric that can differentiate them, probably need a baseline though.

Yes, a special kind of DNA test was developed several years ago that can be used to differentiate between twins. It just takes a lot longer to run the test since you're searching for individual genetic mutations in the DNA of each twin that occurred after the zygote split.

One of the CSI's had an identical triplet episode a while back. Leslie Bibb, I think.

David Caruso solved it by taking off his sunglasses.

You miscomprehended his post. He clearly stated that if only DNA was basically the deciding factor then it would be an issue since twins (including myself) have the same DNA.

It wouldn't be an issue as a special DNA test can now tell the difference between identical twins.

But you should watch it all. Extremely interesting. If you are on the run from the cops, the dog will find you, assuming you’re actually running.

Watching that made me rethink the importance of all the scent free crap we use when hunting. There is no such thing as scent free. We stink and every animal can smell us. Only way to avoid it is to not get winded.
