Do you think that law enforcement agencies lobby against these cars and win?

Sure. Just as hard as they lobby to keep weed illegal.

You get the ticket for installing the illegal chip in your car allowing you to break the law.

What I really expect to happen is that there will be a fee or tax associated with autonomous vehicles to replace tickets/DWI revenue that cities/states currently enjoy. They will make some shite up. Everyone will have to pay. The racketeering and extortion will continue.

So a bigger question is what will local and state governments do to replace this income void?

Exactly. Watch the governments do all they can to roadblock this with bullshite regulations. They will have to devise a new way to tax this to replace their fee income before it will be allowed to happen.

No. If the car isnt running you arent driving it or operating it. It must be running.

Uh no. You're wrong. I even sat on a jury that convicted a guy of felony DUI for being passed out drunk in the driver seat of a vehicle with his keys and a nearly empty bottle of Jack Daniels in the front passenger side floorboard. He was a frat boy with a shitty attitude and multiple priors.

Yeah, if the keys are in the ignition, it's a DWI. Guy I used to work with got one like that. fricked up his career pretty bad.

Even if you are inebriated, if you aren't driving the car could you get a DWI?

This could apply to any violation. How will all this play out as autonomous vehicles become more coming?

Maybe the cops will have to fight crime for once rather than harassing innocent people just trying to have a good time

The argument will be you are still ultimately the person in charge of the vehicle.

Most new cars are push start. So what is the ruling on that?

They'll do the natural thing that all businesses do which is lay off the traffic violation officers and adjust their budget accordingly.

Insurance companies will fight tooth and nail to prevent driverless cars along with law enforcement.

Why? The requirement for insurance to protect the individuals in the car isn't going to go away. I would think insurance companies would herald these vehicles since they will reduce payouts with fewer accidents, etc.

The best part about driverless cars is no traffic. Or always moving traffic.

Can I just say that you read all those sci-fi books and watched all those movies and the future had driverless cars when they were on tracks.

But that would mean a lot of infrastructure for that.

But, with the way technology has gone, we get pretty much that...but for cheaper!!!

Ugh that only works when all cars are driverless. What about the person with the old classic car? Are they not allowed on roads?
