Its the only way you can stop the spread here

California has the strictest lockdowns of any state, and they are leading the pack in new cases and icu capacity

So the lockdowns dont work. Its idiotic people think they do

Either open everything up, or arrest anyone who leaves their house at all

At some point we need to stop being arrogant as a species by thinking we can completely control what happens.

Get the vaccine out while we go about our lives without fear.

Like others have said, you don't.

I live in the Florida panhandle where as you know there are no mandated restrictions by the Governor (thank you DeSantis), and I have some buddies coming in town that don't want to meet up and have a few drinks or eat in a restaurant. But are okay with me riding with them and coming to my house, even though they know I don't wear a mask anywhere? I don't get the rationale.

Let it run it's course because it will and nothing will stop it.

You’re not making sense
you think the covid case count would be lower if we didn’t wear masks, social distance or wash hands?

Yes. And wash your hands. And self quarantine if you are sick.

Schools even shut down due to flu outbreaks.

Let it spread. We have the medical capacity to deal with it. Spread = herd immunity.

Masks don't do a fricking thing. Show me empirical evidence that they work.....

Yep.
I'm so sick of hearing "we" aren't doing our part. The states and other countries with strict lockdowns and mask rules have been hit hard.
fricking take care of the old and sick and move on with life. If the dumbasses in charge(especially in New York) would have used more common sense regarding nursing homes we would have 40% less deaths.

It's a virus. it's going to do what it's going to do

Why do you want to to slow it? only thing slowing it does is completely crush the economy.

Initially the idea was to flatten the curb in order to get a better handle on things and to keep the medical facilities from being overwhelmed. That worked fairly well; however, the virus wasn’t going away. It was going to run its course until a vaccine was developed.
It is obvious now that a prolonged stoppage does more harm to society than the virus does.

How do you explain the hundreds of thousands of people who got covid who strictly adhered to these policies if they are so effective?

Start asking those people what they did prior to getting infected and almost every time there is an unmasked meeting with someone who they know well or a family member who came over etc.
