How to Pronounce GIF?

GIFs have been around for a while and I still can't get a correct answer from any of my friends or family to this question, literally a 50/50 split. So I ask for an answer from you OTers:
The word GIF, is it pronounced with a hard G or a soft G? End this discussion once and for all.

You realize the OG neckbeards of the internet have been arguing this for decades now right?

Like “Gift” but without the T.

It's apparently Jiff, although I still use the hard G because I think that sounds better. Jiff makes me think of peanut butter.

The inventor of the file type call it Jif. Like the peanut butter.

Soft g is for douches
Anyone that says jif is someone I don’t trust

Here's the deal.
Graphics has a hard "G" sound so that's why people say it that way.
The person who created GIF says it with the soft sound like jiff.
I go with the creator, he makes the rules.

Is it that complicated? What does the letter "G" sound like to you?

Hard g. The g is for graphic, so that determines my pronunciation.

I say Jif, like the peanut butter. People who diddle kids say it like gift without the t and try to fall back on the fact that it's "graphical interchange format" so it should be a hard g. But they diddle kids.

This is correct, however the creator pronounces it with "J" sound witch is strange.

Both are recognized though.

Both pronunciations are in use. As we explained when GIF was selected as Oxford Dictionaries USA Word of the Year 2012, ‘GIF may be pronounced with either a soft g (as in giant) or a hard g (as in graphic). The programmers who developed the format preferred a pronunciation with a soft g (in homage to the commercial tagline of the peanut butter brand Jif, they supposedly quipped “choosy developers choose GIF”). However, the pronunciation with a hard g is now very widespread and readily understood.’ A coiner effectively loses control of a word once it’s out there; for instance, the coiner of quark in the physics sense had intended it to rhyme with cork, but general usage has resulted in it rhyming with mark. Whichever pronunciation you use for GIF, it helps if it’s the same for both the noun and the verb.”

Just for reference, I've always said it with a hard G but I've had others call me an idiot for saying it like that. I figured with a famous peanut butter named Jif, having two Jifs would be confusing.
