A guy who appeared to have cerebral palsy approached my car at the QT gas station the other evening as I was backing out. Goes "sir can you do me a favor?" I immediately said "no, I can't" and drove off. He replied, "wow, nice guy, thanks!"

Felt like a POS for a minute, but I've seen shite like that play out too often.

You got me. That usually works well for me where I’ll stumble forward like cripple with a bent hand across my chest, annunciating like Helen Keller. I used to throw in a few “durrr…durrrs” but it started to feel a bit trite and overperformed.

Every now and then a smart guy sees right through me. But most of the time people just hand over money like I’m robbing them. Kudos to you good sir. You got me this time. Don’t tell your friends.

Do Hotels (not the hourly ones) still accept cash for a room?

No. They want your credit card in case something gets damaged or stolen.

It's been 30 years since I've been to one low enough on the trash scale to even ask about accepting cash.

Don't even try. Too many are out to get you or anybody. I was biting hook line and sinker for this guy near my company's office downtown a few years ago. He had rented a UHaul pickup and was saying he needed to help move his daughter and just needed some extra cash to extend the rental. Damn near did it until a coworker chased him off. I felt like an idiot. Saw him later that day on my way home parked outside Jimmy John's on perkins rd with the UHaul pickup trying to do the same thing.

A shame; it ruins for those who actually need help.

I work downtown and see them all. Usually I come in early enough that I don't see them out at that time of the morning, but the sign holders, window washers, sad story givers, etc are out in force when I leave work.

The best was right after I took this job we were walking to the parking garage after work one day and this guy rolls up with his wheelchair and asked for a push across Poydras Street. I was about to do it, but my co-worker said keep walking, he does this every day.

I began to watch this dude often when leaving work and sure enough, he plays this game of getting someone to push him across the street and he makes small talk during the process and then ask for money once on the other side. He cussed me out several times for not stopping to help him.

Sad life to live when having people push you back and forth across the street half the day so you can get drink/drug money.

I've been cussed by someone for not giving them gas money in an albertsons. Had a gas can in hand, said they needed a few bucks.
Scammers used to wait at the filling station, then approach with an empty gas can to ask for some of the gas you were pumping "to put in my car that ran out two miles down the road."

They had someone else's vehicle parked nearby, and a deal to fill it up at a discount.

Word got out and now you don't see this so often.

If you need help, get to a church and get right with yourself. Quit trying to quarantine healthy people because you're scared of your own mortality. Thanks

Years ago, I flew in to BWI(Baltimore) and this lady came up to me distraught as all hell. Scared the shite out of me. Something about no gas. I had no cash on me so I told her sorry.

Flew back to BWI two weeks later and encounter the same lady, same story.

You're only out $2, so no big deal. Once or twice a year I'll give one of the grafters a couple of bucks just because I felt like it that day. It's more likely that I will purchase a food item and bottle of water when approached at a gas station nd give to them as I'm leaving.

I know, I'm an enabler, because that allows them to use their other scammed money for drugs, cigs, booze, ect. So be it, some are actually thankful for the food and water.

The homeless in my area are cool. They stand on the street corner with a guitar, play you a riff, and then you throw in a quarter. None of them ever approach or hassle you, which I can appreciate. The people who come up to your car or ask for money are usually con artists.

A man pulled up along side me in his car while I was in mine - he asked if I could spare a few bucks for a hotel room, his dad was sick blah, blah - an elderly man was in the car and he looked sick - all I had was $5 - and the man asked ‘that’s it?’ and I said ‘yep, take it or leave it’ and he drove off

years ago when I worked in downtown Baton Rouge, there was a homeless man in a wheelchair holding up a sign for some food and drink - so I went and bought him a bottled water and a bag of chips and brought it to him - he was very thankful - but then I realized he only had his thumb and one finger - I wonder if he ever got the stuff opened
