Not a popular take but becoming a parent post-40 is selfish.

Right. I'm sure people would rather they not be born at all than have to attend a funeral.

Nothing about becoming a parent is selfish, if you are a good parent.

Try helping others who are not as fortunate as yourself. It will go a long way to improve their lives and enrich your time spent on this earth. Be a force for good in this world.

Dude, snag a chick in her early-mid 20's and spread your seed.

30s isn’t too old for kids. Find a mid to late 20s woman and spray some guts

Sorry to hear that. Talk about a whirlwind of emotions.

We will likely hear more stories like yours in in a few decades with the way people are having kids later and later. Obviously having kids earlier in life doesn't eliminate the chance of burying a parent when young but it greatly reduces the chances of it.

I had my last kid at 46. It’s not too late for kids.

Your jizz still probably has plenty of tadpoles in it.
Are you married?

Take a ball of cash and head to Thailand and tear it up.

Where is OP?
Why does he think it’s too late to start a family?

Do some things to push yourself out of your comfort zone. Join a club. Volunteer.

Find a random hobby and just go all in. Even better if it's physical and you can set a goal. Like I went hiking this weekend. I don't like being outside so just don't go. But had a great time and will go again soon.

And as someone said, just an attitude change helps. Looks for 3 things your grateful for each day and do or say 1 nice thing for someone else. You'll start to feel better.

Good luck.

Find and be around interesting people. They might be in places you would never expect.

It could be the time of year. Too hot. Nobody has an August hobby. Fall is on the way. I’m quite bored myself even with 2 kids.

Bro, if you’re not ugly and have good genes, pass them on. A wildlife professor at LSU once told me that every male species on earth’s purpose is to cover the earth with his sperm. You sound like a soy boy.

I am single and in my 30s, I think the days of having kids have passed. I have a great job and make a decent salary. But life just feels like it has gotten boring. It feels like I just go through the motions and should be happy but I am just not. I can't imagine keeping this routine until 60 and I retire. How do people keep life exciting?

Who said life was supposed to be exciting? Its mostly dull routine for most people. The key is to be happy with what you have and forget about the shite you do not have. Forget about the shite other people have and are doing. Find something you enjoy. Most hobbies are pretty boring if you don't enjoy them...I can't imagine playing golf for instance, but many people truly enjoy it. Volunteer, help out others who need it, about as rewarding a hobby as one can find.

If one is truly unhappy, almost in any situation, it is because they are unwilling to do what it takes to find happiness....often being unhappy is what they actually want. Unless some health issues prevent one from making changes there is no reason I can think of to be unhappy. Especially someone who is single and does not have kids....that person can do anything they damn well please. its finding something they want to do that is the problem.

try giving and doing for others in whatever way your heart calls you to. It's something bigger than yourself, and it's a sacrifice. It is, essentially, what moms and dads, husbands and wives, do every day, selflessly, whether they want to or not, and while it sucks monkey nuts at times, it's oddly fulfilling.

After all, isn't that what you're looking for? Something fulfilling? My answer: Give the most that you can, and nothing less. Get close to the edge of ridiculous giving without getting reckless.

Hell that goes for all of us.

Best advice ever....give of yourself to others. Not just money but time. Humans are social pack animals, it is a rare individual who is fulfilled on their own. For every minute you give to someone else you get back hours of fulfillment....it can be anything, does not have to be some downtrodden mess but maybe working on cleaning up parks or something. whatever gets one out of their own head and among other people. It is steeped in our DNA.
