Yeah. I just started a new job 3 weeks ago and if I had co workers like this I'd be gone. Any question I have had they have been more than willing to help with. That sucks man.

As someone previously has stated. I'd probably send emails then back copy your boss and if your problems continue you will be able to tell your boss why work may not being done as quickly as possible.

Tell them this is their job. If they do not do it right, you will get someone who will. Demote them or cut their hours. You sound like a push over. Let them know you are the boss.

You will gain respect of the good workers. Good workers hate lazy and incompetent workers.

Make an example of the worst offender.

I'm in with management. They're extremely helpful because they know if I can't get something done, then they have to do it. The main thing is my main task is so far off from the daily tasks of my peers that they see whatever I'm doing as a hindrance

Lol, I'm definitely the lowest ranked non-intern in the office. My office isn't supposed to have entry level but I'm entry level. I aint the boss of anybody. The people I'm dealing with all outrank me.

Email!

Send an email to the person.

CC their supervisor and your supervisor.

Request a response in writing.

It lets management know where your time is being wasted.

It also lets management know your coworker is an idiot.

If they will not respond in writing, then you write up your version of their verbal answer and send it, as above, asking your coworker to verify your interpretation of their answer.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

In that case, If you like the company and see a future, I would approach your boss and ask for more responsibility. The bosses know they are dealing with morons. You will rise up quickly. Unless this is a gov't job.

Hence why I started this thread. I very much don't even imagine to think I know close to 1/3 what most people I work with do.

But what I do does affect them. So when I'm working on a project that will deeply impact them and I ask them for feedback so that I can design with that in mind and I get shite for answers I get frustrated.

Design one small project that is very labor intensive for them!

Say it was designed based on their input.

They will be more cooperative next time.

in this scenario i would do what's best for me and the company. who gives a shite how it will affect or impact them, esp. if you're asking for input and they're too busy to offer it. why bother? do your own thing, and if they complain after the fact, well, remind them that they had their chance.

well if you are really asking for input from others with their interest in mind (which your initial post does not support), then you must be asking in the wrong way...

maybe you are coming across as incompetent and a nuisance.

maybe they see you as stealing their ideas.

maybe they see you as a threat.

I have been there before. Same field. It will take time, a history of accountability. As of now there is probably nothing they need your help with, but you need theirs. With time and patience this will change. 1yr +. They will eventually figure out what you do well and it will be more of an even exchange

A 2x4 across the back of the head. But not too hard; you just want to get their attention, not knock them out cold.

Financial analyst

an analyst just reports, you don't make recs.

If it's data, it will speak for itself, the "savy" is from experience which you most likley do not have.

ex: I get data that shows X, report it, bosses do nothing because "X" is "just the way it is".

but could we....no
but what if...no

It's not right, wrong, it's just the learning curve of what can be changed, and what was tried before but failed a few years ago so "don't ever bring that up again"

What I mean by all this, is if you're just strating out (first few years), just provide your reports in a way that highlights what you think is impactful and let them see it...."yada X yada increased 35% over last quarter" and let them decided if they should direct more resources to Yada X market.

Every person wants to play their role. You can't be data miner and CFO.

Now that I actually read this:

You are the Mole.

you are to report on production metrics, or at that's at least how your peers see you, you are the person who is going to rat them out.

When I first started out, the same thing happened. I was tasked with production reports utilizing internal metrics....which means basically establishing a bar and tracking employees. Well it is a Union work site.

I could go into my stories, but each site is unique. All I did was just to be the nice-bad guy.

"Boss" needs me to put a report together regarding "metric X", so I need you to get it to me by tomorrow 2pm or send me an an email CC'ing "boss" about an extension. You can tell "boss" or I will have to. I can also help you compile the info if you'd like, and it won't be such a burden on you. Just let me know what you'd like me to do.

Is it your job to explain their work to them? If not, worry about your own shite and let them sink or swim.
