I have a fancy headset that's amazing for conference calls. I mute and watch the Zoom meeting on one screen and play on the OT on the other.

I just talk loud in a commanding voice.
Also know when to pause...you should know when others need/want to jump in.

Are you the host or attendee?
Each has a different approach. I'm with you though. I hate conference calls. Hosting them when you require others to participate is miserable.

Learn to carry a conversation. You speaking in front of people has the power in your court. Conference calls are more of a brain storming session.

Yea I always do this when it's a structured conference call with a clear agenda. This was an introductory call with people from 6 different offices all around the world. It was a disaster.
I do like the idea of forcing more structure into the call, though. That's probably the best realistic option.

Written agenda sent out in advance. Each participant knows what will be asked of them, and when. Less "sorry what was that?" and less "I'll have to follow up with you on that". Given the opportunity, people will generally be prepared for the call, it goes quickly, and things actually get accomplished.
And here's the kicker...
When you send out that agenda, half the time you'll get email responses for each item, and you don't even need the damn meeting.

Have a mirror nearby. When you’re talking, look at yourself in the mirror. It’ll help you sound more personable on the call and help your confidence. If you sound confident and engaged, people are more likely to shut up and listen

IF you're hosting, set the agenda and sent it out to the attendees.
If you're invited ask for the agenda and why you're needed on the call. If you don't get response then don't attend.

Don’t watch pr0n while on a conference call, that usually helps.
