Why fiber? Is it because it is an essential nutrient for the body?
Feeds the gut microbiome (a cool rabbit hole to go down)
Tend to be associated with low glycemic foods in general
High-fiber foods tend to be whole, unprocessed foods
Good write up if interested

A paleo-Esque diet is speculated to promote a healthy micro-biome. A western diet filled with excessive processed carbs and seed oil is speculated to promote an unhealthy microbiome. This is another factor that plays into designing a diet that most people overlook...
Feed your inner midi-chlorians properly...

Michael Eades Article
"And, despite numerous studies showing that fiber doesn’t really do squat for us healthwise, everyone continues to recommend it."
Chris Kresser Article
"A recent report by NPR commented that despite the lack of significant evidence linking fiber intake to health outcomes such as reduced heart disease or cancer, many consumers are buying foods that are fortified with synthetic fiber additives under the guise of health promotion."
So my question wasn't directed at you, just the nonsense comment of forcing one's self to eat a "high-fiber" diet when it has been proven and shown to not have any healthy benifits.
Mark's Daily Apple Article
Right here in your link
"At the end of the day, fiber appears to be overrated."
If you want to eat plants, go ahead. The fiber along with the seeds and plants probably isn't going to hurt you, unless you eat a ton & "constipation" ensues. Your risk for cancer isn't decreasing because of it though. Let's stop the charade.

The impact of fiber on the microbiome data is still emerging /work in progress
The link I posted did acknowledge the data limitations for some claims made.
Fiber tends to be in other whole foods I have gravitated towards (veggies/fruits). I do not go out of my way to obtain fiber. Eating clean tends to take care of itself.
Glad you are following Chris Kresser's work. Good stuff. I think I got linked with him via an interview he did with Peter Attia
Thx for the links
Stay healthy/well

Exactly. I don't find myself seeking out fiber per se. It just comes along for the ride with the other nutrients in plants.

You're more idiotic than the poster you called out for saying "why be a fatass in the first place"
quote:
at the apex of my bike racing weight, i was 185, rode the bike 6 hours a day INCLUDING hard sprints (had a cycling coach who prescribed daily workouts) and was fit enough to win some cash & move up in the USA cycling ranks. i did this by starving myself prior to bed and eating little more than a handful of nuts or maybe a couple pieces of grilled chicken.
If you're "starving" yourself, you aren't fit. But congrats on being hella skinny fat with 6 hours of biking a day and no food.

couldn't drop a pound even after burning 5000+ calories per day training and doing this for months.
Why were you trying to drop a pound to begin with? Because you were skinny fat and wanted to look better, but your exercise and diet was the exact reason you didn't like your appearance

It amazes me that people still think that fat, or carbs are bad for you. Every bring should be had in moderation, but the simple truth is still to eat less calories than you burn if you are trying to lose weight, eat the same if you want to maintain weight, and eat more if you want to gain weight.
This assumes all calories are digested the same which they aren't. Also, please explain to me how to burn 2,000 calories in a day just to maintain weight at the suggested caloric intake.

Gee and all this time I thought it was so i wouldn't get dropped when there were attacks on the climbs.

Why would you need to burn 2000 calories to maintain weight?

I still have your email if you want to dive further - I'm just a bit busy through Monday - but fiber is a topic I am just venturing in.

I hear ya. I like the occasional green myself. It is when people spew high-fiber as some health benefit, I get my feathers ruffled.

Sugar leads to heart disease
"Researchers then performed a 10-year post study monitoring just to see what had happen, and were surprised to learn that those patients who had undergone the strict glucose control experienced fewer heart attacks, fewer diabetic symptoms, and lower all-cause mortality."
Read Dr. Lustig's book: Sugar: Pure, White, and Deadly
Or listen to his youtube talks:
The Bitter Truth
20 Minute Ted Talk
Fructose 2.0
He comes across as a militant, and wants to tax it out. I want to take a free-choice approach and let consumers decide how they want to approach it.

I didn't start this idiocy. Citing articles in your favor are also silly and indicative of just how gullible people are. Take off the blinders and go with real life results...over 61 years versus a few "weaks".
Sorry for offending, have at it girls.
