Strapped aboard plane wreckage hurtling uncontrollably towards Earth, 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke had a fleeting thought as she glimpsed the ground 3,000 metres below her.
The trees in the dense Peruvian rainforest looked like heads of broccoli, she thought, while falling towards them at 45 metres per second.
A wild thunderstorm had destroyed the plane she was travelling in and the row of seats Juliane was still harnessed to twirled through the air as it fell.
She lost consciousness, assuming that odd glimpse of lush Amazon trees would be her last.
But then, Juliane woke up.
The jungle canopy was now above her.
It was Christmas Day 1971, and Juliane, dressed in a torn sleeveless mini-dress and one sandal, had somehow survived a 3km fall to Earth with relatively minor injuries.

I believe I listened to this story on a Mr. Ballen podcast
Unbelievable story
I think she found her dead mom still in her seat at some point?

A week after her rescue, as part of an official search with her as a guide.
Something like 14 total survived the crash, but their wounds were too much to be able to move far from where they hit, and they didn’t make it till rescue efforts emerged.
How’s this for survivor’s guilt: her mother was only on that flight because Juliane wanted to spend a few more days in country.

Probably didn't have her tray table up and her seat back in the full upright position.

The filmmaker Warner Herzog was supposed to be on this flight but he either missed it or switched at the last minute.
Pretty crazy this girl was on a plane that blew up and then she woke up strapped to her seat wedged in a tree. Then getting out of the rainforrest was a nightmare itself. She got attacked by those bugs that lay their lavae under your skin and she had a bunch of those worms crawling around in her and she had to dig them out.

There is a series on Apple that this must be based off of. On the series, there is a flight from NY to LA that crashes in Colorado and everyone on the flight dies except this 11 year old kid. He has to go live with his aunt in NYC, which is where he was from, because his parents and brother were on the flight.
There is a AA type group formed for the loved ones of the deceased on the crash, but the kid has all kind of issues.
