It took me over 3 years of seeing someone off and on before they met my kids.

Definitely recommend keeping your dating life and family life separate if possible

With split custody it's pretty simple. When I have the kids, it's their night. We cook and play and watch movies and have fun.

When they are with their mom, I can have date nights.

We cook and play and watch movies and have fun.

From personal experience and years of observation, you probably ought to wait about 2 years to get rid of all those ghosts and cobwebs clouding your brain.

I've noticed that the time spent with the kids has been more focused on them. Going out to eat, movies and even the mall.

Year is what I advise. Also, if you have kids.... Don't introduce kids to anyone until you've been dating 4 months

Copious amounts of casual boot knocking helps some. At least you won't feel so fricking awkward. Just keep it light and easy.

From personal experience, date whenever you'd like but keep it separate from your kids. I'd agree that near the two year mark is when your head starts to clear, your routines stat to be engrained, and life settles.
Intro to kids - once you know it's serious/long lasting. I've set the bar at 6 months (kids 13&11) and haven't crossed it yet so they've met no one.

Date whenever you want. But, having them sleep at your house when your kids are home is a legal issue that's decided by a judge and your EX, if they so desire.

After the last separation, I went out with CC that night. Then a few others. And a few more.
It was the only way I could get over my crushing sadness.

Divorce was final a bit later...

start easy. keep an eye out on the obituary section. find some nice looking widows looking to take their minds off of things for a few minutes. There's mutual benefits in that relationship unlike most fricking marriages.

I started going out a few weeks after I got the papers. The Lithettes are older (20 and up) so them meeting someone is no big deal though Lithette #2 doesn't like it when I date a 20something.

Start dating when you feel like you want to. As far as your children, you should really wait on that. Be sure the person you're dating is a long term partner before you bring them into your kids' lives.

Best of luck, bud.

I saw a chart that showed amount of time to grieve loss after a break up.

It all depends on the kids and you. I am going through a divorce right now (still). I have zero interest in dating anyone, and may never. Plus, unless we get an annulment dating is pointless.

I have really started looking forward to being on my own except when I have the kids. I like to go hunt or fish whenever I want. I am not sure I want to have to run my plans by anyone else ever again..

Have the EX tell them you deserve love in your life too.

I'm going through the same right now, and am thinking this exact thing.

OP- make sure you don't impregnate any of those one night stands before the divorce.

I started dating before my divorce was final. I waited about a month after I told my ex-wife I was divorcing her to start dating. It was about a week after she moved out.

Felt pretty good fricking another woman on what had been our marital bed one week after my ex moved out. Especially since she was 23, which was 8 years younger than my ex.

edit: and for the love of god keep things casual for a while. A long while.
