One of the locations I work at had a picture of Buckwheat on the back wall. It had a small write up saying when he was born, when he died, and said he was a beloved television child star, ingrained in Americana, etc.
HR came in and saw it and demanded that it be taken down since it was racist. The guy who put it up had long since left the job. He was a big black guy. He had considered it a tribute.

I would like to know how this is racist? Because it has a black man on it and the verbiage is written in a dialect that any logical person would conclude "Uncle Remus" would use? Is that not what Uncle Remus would sound like?
Would it be racist if a white Barney Fife looking person was on the can and said "By golly this syrup sure is going to be good"?

if they think they're getting mocked by it then yes it is.
we would have to know who created the ad and who they were trying to sell the syrup to, but using standard English is always "safe"

Who cares. I bet that syrup was damn good. I wish I had some. Most of the syrup today is full of corn syrup.
