Im for anything that phases out Louisiana drivers. Id almost wish they'd make people take refreshers or somthing. But since that aint going to happen...next best thing.

WHen there is no good option I wonder which one it is going to pick. Great, it swerves but what if it is bracketed by 2 other cars?

What happens when some idiot hacks into the on board computer in your car and drives you over the side of a bridge?

Didn't that already happen to a jeep?
Not driving off a bridge. Just shut it down.

I'll never drive one so it won't really affect me much either way. If it takes bad drivers off the road I guess that's a good thing and I'll be happy to sue the balls of some mutli billion dollar tech/auto company rather than some 17 year old ding dong so yea sure bring em on.

If it gets me fap and nap on the way to work then I down.

If we can come up with a system that truly lets me relax and do something else while the car drives me, then I am good with that.
however, we have been trying to simply use computers to optimize routing of our techs at work and even that is still a hell of a long ways off.
I don't think driverless cars will be common in our lifetime....

Some of our operators are scary stupid, and the automation keeps them from killing someone. Yet we can't automate a car because "people" are safer?
All of which are controlled by me.

Housing prices are going through the roof in the area where my work is. Once driverless cars become more prevalent, I can go buy a place out in the country 45 minutes away and not have to worry about the commute at all. I can sleep or work on my laptop on the way to and from work each day.
Slow your roll there bud. The traffic and multi-tasking will improve drastically but there will STILL be a disincentive to live in far flung suburbs because instead of having mostly fixed costs associated with car transportation you will now pay PER MILE which means that families who live out in the burbs are going to have to pay $300 to $1000 more a month depending on how far out and what the rates are.

It will SUCK balls. The damn things are guaranteed to go the speed limit, even if its 40 on a 4 lane highway where the traffic ought to be 55. Slow traffic causes road rage and people will have NO problem fricking with some stupid autobot vehicle.

your cost estimates are absolutely bogus.
How do you figure? I said it depends on how many miles and at what rate. If we're talking 15 extra miles out @ 40 cents for both adults in the home. That's an extra 60 miles 5 days a week. That's $520 a month, not including extra commutes to town for whatever.
and we won't be hitting 40 cents a mile for a while. A lot of cars will be sitting idle during the day and weekends but will exist because they are needed to accommodate rush hours. Obviously they can do some recharging and maintenance, but still.. that's what nighttime is for.

I still think we see automated trucking before we see automated passenger cars.

I mean before it's implemented.
We already see driverless trucks too.

I'll be first in line for one. No more worrying about a DD or über ride after getting drunk

A common argument among drug prohibition proponents is the fact mass legalization would increase traffic accidents and DWIs.. Would driver-less vehicles pave the way for an end of the WOD?
Yes, but at the same time, couldn't it potentially be easier to distribute illegal drugs? We all know marijuana is one thing, but there are other actually very harmful and destructive drugs that get distributed.
Just like social media has helped a new form of prostitution......
