Around 1988, I was in college in Houston. I managed the front desk of the coed dormitory. With college life, you have security personnel.
One day, we had a security officer named “Rob”. Rob wanted to get into criminal justice but he was working to save money for school.
Rob heard from a female student on campus who was being verbally harassed. Rob gets in his truck and tracks this suspect down inside a Shell gas station bathroom and starts throwing down on this suspect. the real Houston Police officers are notified by me and they are pissed ! They pick up Rob and nearly file charges against this wannabe Cop.
So yes, give some these high testosterone young guys some power and authority and shite can go down real quick.

He will even give a guy who was initially cussing him out a smoke and they'll talk it out. A few years ago, he walked up while we were dealing with a pissed off husband from a domestic dispute, we were treating his wife. Pretty unprofessional but that same cop walks up and husband just straight up says "frick you bitch", cop bends over and says, "where, in my arse?" We all busted out laughing, even the husband chuckled, definitely a had to be there thing, but eased the situation up, he just has a knack for it.

Just trying to be careful with disclosing stuff. But yea, it was a pretty shitty situation. That kind of stuff as well as my department continuously hiring subpar human-beings made me walk the frick away.

There are a lot of good police out there. There sad thing is that there are a lot of idiots who are police who make the good ones look bad.
It really does seem like there are two types of police. You have the ones who truly respect the job, they are reasonable and they have good intentions.
Then you have the jackasses who doesn't really care about the job, they care about what the job gives them. They were never the smartest in school, never the most athletic, not the coolest, they wanted to be something they just couldn't be.
So they become a police and now all of a sudden, in their minds, they have some type of power over the type of people they were always jealous of.
Also, there is the whole "women love men in a uniform". There are certain types of men that women want. You have cleat chasers, gold diggers, women who have a thing for police, etc.. So they get attention from the opposite sex as well. They are in it for what it comes with and not really interested in being a good policeman.

No one is putting a gun to their head forcing them to be policemen. They become policemen so THEY CAN put a gun to other peoples heads.

Yep, departments have been running cover for shitty cops for too long. With everything on video now it is more difficult to hide.
