4.603 billion years, same age as the Sun.

For the bible types, I don’t think an old earth would be inconsistent.

God apparently made Adam a grown man. I doubt he had no teeth or baby teeth just because technically he was a day old.

I’d think the same would apply to the earth. For the earth to function it would probably need all the attributes of being created naturally.

Isn’t Lucy the human fossil around 3million years old?

I can only attest to the earth being 43 years old.

Anything older than that and I am depending on someone else's opinion based on data.

The oldest rocks found are in Australia and have been dated to over 4 billion years ago using the radioactive decay of uranium. The error is 1% at worst so that's plus or minus 40 million years.

You're assuming uranium has always decayed at the same rate. Even the best dating systems are based on asumptions that everything has ALWAYS been exactly as it is now.

I specifically remember bringing it home from the Nissan dealership. It was 4.6 billion years ago.

ETA Sorry, it was a Datsun dealership back then.

Earth is assumed to be 4 to 5 billion years old. Universe is assumed to be around 13 to 15 billion years old.

4.5 billion years it's not a matter of belief

That’s just the latest estimate. They have changed the age of the universe several times, for instance

Great point. The Earth could APPEAR to be billions of years old day one because the processes of creation would take billions of years to naturally occur without a Divine action (aka miracle)

Depends on the assumptions you start with.

If you assume the universe was not created and assume everything has been happening without any intervention from outside the natural system (supernatural forces), then you arrive at however many billions of years that gets you.

If the universe was created, then the above assumption and the extrapolation backwards for billions of years is based on a flawed premise.

If you start with a naturalist assumption, then you get a naturalist result.

Fwiw, the Bible provides the genealogy from Adam to Jesus and the ages when each father had the next the descendant in line. 6000 is the sum of those ages.

We can very accurately date the earth using carbon dating.

Earth is 4.543 billion years old.

What does that even mean?

All of our measurements of time are based on energetic changes on the atomic level. Whether it's a quartz crystal in watches, cesium in atomic clocks or the radioactive decay of atomic nuclei.

So either somehow in the past radioactive decay of uranium was different from every other elemental process or, if not, it doesn't matter because that's all we can say time is anyway.

The assumption there is that God made Adam out of a pile of dirt... Sooooo
