Just retired as a medic and you’d be surprised. They were still using their phone apps to go to a scene within the last year when I retired. Could have been bad information by the caller, or dispatch got confused. I worked for a fire based ambulance service but I’ve been off the truck for nearly 10 years and retired in administration. Was a flight medic for a few years.

One reason to keep a land line in your home. Your address is put in automatically.

I’m amazed how much people let their street address number on their mailbox become unreadable or even fall off. And I’m talking about some really nice houses.

Absolutely! And it requires minimal effort to maintain a mailbox. I had one lady complaining that her mail was getting wet. I went to look at her mailbox and found the top of the box had a hairline crack for several inches.

It should be rare in most places today unless the 911 dispatcher screws up. Most 911 calls that come in to dispatchers have lat long coordinates for the caller within 30-50 ft. It plots on a mop and they dispatch based on thy call type and address the relevant resources.

Dispatchers are under a lot of stress at times. They are in many cases underpaid and work alot of hours. Mistakes happen. Technology is improving response times and accuracy.

Even if the dispatch was at fault unfortunately, I think you have a hard time seeing any real results in retribution.

He won’t call 911 if he’s dying or in trauma?

Pike and Amite County MS are the worst. Neighbor had a heart attack and called 911, 2 hours later another neighbor found him laid out in the field and brought him to the hospital. Once he got in a room and got his phone he called 911 again and asked if they were coming, dispatch said they were on the way. This was 2 years ago and we still haven't seen an ambulance.

This winter late at night an ambulance was coming towards us on a backroad, so we pulled to the side to give them plenty room. They stopped next to us and we spent 10 minutes with them trying to give them directions TO THE ROAD WE WERE ON. They refused to understand they were on the road even with statements like "You are on TD Road right now". Finally I told the wife to drive off.

My mother was suffering from Alzheimer's and had a spell of some sort. Called the ambulance and was watching out her window for them and they drive right by and turn down another street. Run outside they make the block and flag em down. WTF!

If in a rural area or out in parish this isn’t uncommon. Or if many of the houses aren’t numbered where they can easily be seen. Best thing is to always have someone standing out waving so ems crew can see location easily.

And for others saying it takes a long time. If in rural area you simply may just not have good coverage, if the one ambulance is already on a call it may be an ambulance coming from a completely different parish even, just depends on your service provider and location

I have such a hard time believing this. I was on the streets for around 20 years and was also a flight medic. From what I saw, it was the complete opposite. As a matter of fact, not sure I can think of 1 instance where a paramedic I worked with or knew did something to kill anyone. Obviously it's happened before, but very rare.

Built a house in a new subdivision. My street connected to an older subdivision. For some stupid reason, the new section of street is the same name as the older street except it changes from Drive to Avenue, and the numbering system is different. You know it takes a couple of years for GPS and computer systems to update their maps. I had hell at first trying to change my address on some websites because it wouldn't recognize Ave and would want to force me to put Dr. Hell, even the post office or delivery companies would deliver to my house with either on my address. Anyway, long story short, we had a medical emergency one night and called 911. Ambulance called me on my cell because they couldn't find my house. I went out front, and it was way down the street in the old neighborhood. I had to talk them down the street to my house. Glad someone didn't die in the meantime.

Apparently not. Once they get to English Turn, which is pretty large, then what?

I broke my leg and the ambulance got lost trying to find my house. It took 45 minutes for the first one. They arrived and didn't have any pain meds. The second one showed twenty minutes after the first. They had pain meds. Billed for $4,500.00, incompetence should have a deduct.
