How much would you spend on a sick pet to diagnose an issue?

I’m sure the number will vary greatly depending on poster but I’m just curious. I have a 7 year old dog that I’m in $3500 this week and still don’t know what the issue really is. Vet wants to do more tests next week that will run at least another $3000. I declined that and felt like I was being judged

What kind of tests were they running that cost 350 ten times

Would never have gotten to 3500

You are a good man and a fine American. Your little buddy appreciates you.

My dog had an incident a while back......I lost track of how much we spent on him thru the whole ordeal.

Depends if it's a loyal, grateful dog or a snobby, two-faced cat.

My rule of thumb is a purebred dog is worth roughly its replacement cost until 5 or so, not counting congenital or genetic issues that decrease the utility value of the dog to me. Mutts are worth basically nothing to me.
All the rescue dog and mutt owners can go ahead and downvote but dogs are property to me and I keep them for the utilitarian value as workers or as amusement for my kids.

Our dog got some crazy infection a few months back that required 2 nights at the hospital and a bunch of stupid tests over the course of the following week or 2. I stopped counting at $5k

Your vet is raping you. Even LSU vet school doesn’t charge that much to run tests and they’re high as giraffe pussy.

Kudos to you for putting out so much effort for your pet. You’re good people.
That said, only you know can answer your question cause it’s your pet. Do what you think is best.
I think you’ve gone far beyond what most would do for a companion animal.

I wouldn’t have said it like that but at the end of the day a dog is just a dog. Dogs are not people. I know I wouldn’t pay 3500 for a dog nor would I spend that at a vet for one. I might spend a couple of a hundred bucks maybe if I really had a attachment other wise I would put the animal down.

I would not exceed one weeks pay

While the Vet's wife is in a new Benz.

I’d spend about 100 bucks tops.

We just spent $1k to find out what was wrong with her eye and another $1k to have the eye removed. And it's a cat.

That's an expensive fork.
