Very little. We get each other 1 big present and use the rest of what we would have spent on each other to spoil the kids and take a vacation in the spring/early summer.

This year, around $300. Most I've spent on her for Christmas in quite awhile.

I started a Christmas acct at the credit union a few years ago. It comes to about $1500 a year. That's her budget. But that also includes Anniversary last week and daughter's birthday the week after Christmas.

The only thing I can think is that maybe some people are buying their wives vehicles for Christmas and 5% is the down payment they put down.

That actually may not be a bad strategy as at some point you're going to be buying a vehicle for the wife anyway. Might as well kill two birds with one stone and disguise something you'd be out for anyway as a "Christmas gift." But that would realistically be a once or (maybe twice) a decade type gift.
