So for those of you who have lived where it snows, how much of a pain and inconvenience is it to have to shovel snow out of your driveway on a daily basis during the winter?

Sounds like you have the answer right in front of you

its a real pain in the arse. it was fun the first time or two. probably age dependent too. i had a short driveway and long sidewalk to do when it snowed hard. In my mid thirties it was one of the few things that were a real back killer. I am a very fit and at that time avid runner, and it was a workout for me.

It really depends on what type of snow it is. If it's powder you can get it knocked out in no time. I higher the 15 yr old next door for the heavy stuff.

It fricking sucks. Get up 2 hours early to shovel the drive and sideways in front of your house. Work 10 hours and come home and shovel again. That was my first year, I figured how hard can it be then I was introduced to wet snow. What a motherfricker. Bought a snow blower following July when they first were advertised. Was much better, but I got a pull start instead of electric start( saved $200) and was a pain when it got real cold.

With a snow blower, not that much of an inconvenience. In WI, it wasn't a daily occurrence and when it gets cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey, like low teens to single digits, it normally doesn't snow.

ETA: As a kid with parents who didn't have a snow blower it sucked, especially when the snow plow would come through and leave a 3' tall drift at the base of your driveway.

I pay someone to come plow the driveway when it absolutely dumps, but otherwise, it's just another household chore that has to be done. Don't really think about it that much.

With global warming, it’s no longer necessary. I think you can wear shorts year round in the formerly frozen north.

The Army moved me to a "snowy" climate a few times in my career. The handful of times that I had to shovel snow, I did it the old fashioned way with a plain old snow shovel and no machines whatsoever.

I can say with absolute emphasis that shoveling snow is an extreme form of physical training. If the level is over one foot, you are in for the "work out" of your life, if you are in a single family home. Anybody who tries it without first being in very good physical condition is very wrong.

When I lived in the Midwest, we had a neighbor who charged $200 every winter to plow anyone's driveway who needed it all season. He hooked up a snow plow to the front of his truck and was usually done with everyone's driveways within an hour.

It also isn't a daily occurrence. It usually had to snow a good bit before it got to the point where I needed to shovel it.

It isn't fun, but it also doesn't take very long and you get used to it.

I’ve never lived where it snows, in other words, I’ve lived in Louisiana all my life. When I express to my wife how I would love to move up North and live where it snows, my wife constantly reminds me, “Yeah, you might like it at first, but you would soon start to really NOT like shoveling snow.” She lived in Philly when she was a kid, so she has experienced snow while I’ve only seen real snow once or twice in my whole life.

We visit my friend who lives at 7400' just north of the Air Force Academy. Shoveling Snow is a MOTHERfrickER.

I absolutely love doing it when I go visit as it's an incredible HIIT workout when the snow is more than 6"+ deep.

But I would never want to do that shite regularly.

I always paid someone partly because of that huge snowbank the DOT plows would leave. I ain't got time for all that.

I lived in Milwaukee, WI one winter and had to shovel it several times that winter - including with bruised ribs.

it sucks and I hate it. the plows just pile the shite at the end of the driveway, so your chipping the snow and ice to break it up to clear the DW so you can park - and you cannot park on the street, or you get towed. and if you dont shovel your sidewalks, you get fined.

the real kicker is the city charges you a fee for excess water when the snow melts.

Sometimes he isn't very timely and it fricks me pretty hard. My terrain is too uneven for a snow blower and I'm not hand shoveling 100+ feet by hand. Considering buy an old shitty truck to just put a plow on the front.

If you enjoy a good workout its great. Sucks when you're running late for work though. Get a 4x4, then it rusts within 1 winter season.

Not fun, and you have to keep up with it or your driveway’s a solid sheet of ice. We used a leaf blower when it was light snow but graduated to a snow-blower by the 3rd winter.
