How much of a pain is shoveling snow?

Here’s a little winter question to distract us from the heat.

I’ve never lived where it snows, in other words, I’ve lived in Louisiana all my life. When I express to my wife how I would love to move up North and live where it snows, my wife constantly reminds me, “Yeah, you might like it at first, but you would soon start to really NOT like shoveling snow.” She lived in Philly when she was a kid, so she has experienced snow while I’ve only seen real snow once or twice in my whole life.

So for those of you who have lived where it snows, how much of a pain and inconvenience is it to have to shovel snow out of your driveway on a daily basis during the winter? Is it not that bad or do you just get used to it? If I ever get out if Louisiana, I need to know these things. Thanks!

Depends on the age of your kids

Working every morning before you have to go to work sounds like it would suck.

You could get a heated driveway though.

Who shovels? We got self-propelled blowers for that.

I grew up in the snow. Shoveling snow before school so your parents can get their cars out is not pleasant.

Seeing your dad laugh as he finally buys a snowblower when you leave for college isn’t too pleasant either. But it gets funnier the older I get.

It sucks but when I did it I was in my 30s. If I had to do it now, I'd get a plow/snow blower.

Buy a snowblower or hire someone to shovel it.

To be fair, if you live somewhere that gets a large amount of snow today you’re likely going to own a legit snowblower. They’re also more likely as a community to be able to handle it.

Dealing with the ice is worse IMO. We have windshield covers we throw on before that kind of weather that helps prevent that layer of ice that is a pain in the arse under the snow.

I enjoy it. Get out of the house and get some exercise.

This is the OT, where everyone can afford to hire someone to shovel their snow.

I’ve had a snowblower for the past 5 years. It’s well worth the money.

Shoveling snow sucks.

A lot of heart attacks are triggered by shoveling snow and you can't forget about having to scrape your fricking windows every damn day. It can be avoided by parking in a garage but it will most likely be stuffed to the brim with plastic bins of holiday decorations.

I don’t really have anything to add to this conversation but I will say that I want to buy land in Wyoming and build my retirement home there. The only thing stopping me is the extreme cold. Shoveling all that snow, or just having to deal with it on a constant basis, seems like a sure way to die early.

I was in Orlando evacuating from a hurricane and these trash of people from Ohio were telling me that living in the south is easier because we don’t have to shovel snow, and snow shoveling is worse than a hurricane.

Ridiculous statement in my opinion. Snow doesn’t destroy your home and all your possessions.

only difference in shoveling dirt and snow is, snow you freeze you arse of, and dirt you sweat your arse off, both are no fun and hard work.

just get a snow blower like most smart people do

Lived in western PA for 7 years. Shoveling isn’t terrible. But I suggest a blower. I’d deal with that over the heat in louisiana all day.
