baw is you crazy?

anyways, the way i always understood it was "coonass" was a term reserved for bayou cajuns. we always called prairie cajuns rednecks

and i'm from Chauvin. grew up shrimpin, crabbin, all that jazz, but i escaped and live on the Northshore now. so 9 on the scale first half of my life, 3 now.

My dad's family is from Georgia, my mom's family is from New Orleans.. I don't really identify with being a coonass.

I hang out at bars that serve crawfish in the Spring, so probably a 10.

You see me, my mom's from Larose, my dad's from Cut Off
I never lived above the Intracoastal.
When I cook first thing I do is make a roux.
So I say about 8. If I spoke french more better I'd say a 10

Unless.......

can you drive a mudboat/airboat/surface drive/tiller arm?
Can you run a crawfish/crab trap?
Every been shrimping?
Can you clean a deer/duck/fish?
Every been alligator/nutria/rabbit/squirrel/hunting
Do you boil/fry shrimp/crab/crawfish?
Can you fry anything that swims/flies?
Do you fish/hunt/bait your hook?
Ever burn the marsh?

you might not be a coonass

Scottish last name, but born and raised in Montegut

I have done all of the stereotypical coonass stuff, know some Cajun French, and have the accent.

Don't know where that falls on the scale

Trick question. A true coonass can only count to 8.

In real life 0 – but I lived in S LA (okay BTR) + 1, like to hunt and fish (a lot) +2, have French cdn heritage so Im kinda a cousin.
Now folks up in the great white N would give me a 10, I make gumbo, hunt from a pirogue in da marsh, yell at the TV when LSU plays FB ....

Seriously though I met a coona** fishing guide from Chauvin and we were damn near twins, it was spooky even my wife was amazed .... he was a handsome guy

If we use tigerbaits criteria:

can you drive a mudboat/airboat/surface drive/tiller arm? Yep to 2 of 4
Can you run a crawfish/crab trap? - yep
Every been shrimping? – yep
Can you clean a deer/duck/fish? – like a baw
Every been alligator/nutria/rabbit/squirrel/hunting – 3 of 4; no gator hunting for me, but I do recall a gator dying of lead poisoning so it wouldn’t eat a dog (statute of limitations is up)
Do you boil/fry shrimp/crab/crawfish? – yep
Can you fry anything that swims/flies? – I eat it if it runs too slow or flies to low
Do you fish/hunt/bait your hook? – yep
Ever burn the marsh? Nope

I should at least be an honorary one
