20 bucks a signature is what most that don't give freebies charge but the real money in it is being able to renew licenses, do registrations and the like

I’m a notary. I work part time as a side hustle. Mostly people in this thread don’t understand the different ways to make money using it. Never spent a dime on advertising. Make approximately 20% of my fulltime gig’s annual salary.

Mechanics liens need to be released. Mortgages need to be closed. Cars get sold. Wills. Small successions. Notaries do this at a fraction of the cost of attornies. Many will travel to you without you leaving your home or office.

I hustle. But I work at it < 10 hours/week.

If you hustled you could do well. If you wanted to ball, you’d become a public tag agent. Otherwise it’s a nice sideline.

Do a search on LinkedIn for full-time notary public position.

You won’t find one.

HB 572 was voluntarily deferred. SB 358 made it out of Jud A and off the Senate Floor over to the House. They both dealt with electronic notary acts and are chocked full of holes. They were created by some out of town interests using a NOLA company that sells adjudicated properties.

HCR 31 reported out of Civil Law, the House and Senate Jud A (the latter was today) without a single nay so far. Goes back to the Senate Floor before the House.

HCR asks Law Institute to compose model legislation for electronic notarial acts to be used for the next session.

FYI-The Bar Association, the LLTA and the La Notary Association all opposed SB 358/HB 572.

SB 358, Sec 626 & 628 allows a Notary to go anywhere on Earth (it literally removes all jurisdictional restrictions) and notarize something for anyone, regardless of their location. It also torpedoes the Authentic Act.

There are at least a dozen pieces of remedial legislation required just for those two sections to be legally valid in Louisiana.

Poorly thought out Bill from people who didn’t understand the Civil Law Framework.
