How much food does your household waste?

It's ridiculous with my family and I'm ashamed. Between overbuying fresh fruits and vegetables that ruin before they're eaten and cooking far more than is necessary for meals, I'd guess that a third of all the food purchased in my household ends up in the garbage or fed to the dog.
I always put leftovers in the fridge for later, but rarely are they finished or even touched again before being thrown out.

Too damn much....IMO any wasted food is too much

My wife and I don't waste leftovers unless it ends up going bad, but we are usually pretty good and managing them after we cook. It's such a waste of food and money that I'll never understand. As long as you can maybe mix in a slight variety in between and stagger the leftovers, then you're golden.

I’m right there with ya.

My wife and I are pretty good about this...I HATE having to throw food away.

not much because I eat leftovers for lunch most days

I think the stats say 40% of the food produced in America goes to waste.
My family has gotten better, but there are still times when I buy meat or veggies with great intentions of cooking it and then we get busy with kids spots or meetings, etc and I forget.
I’m also horrible with frozen meat. I rarely think to thaw something in time to cook it.

I buy extra food just to throw it away.

Same. Too much.
We have actively tried to lower it, but it's still more than I will admit.

Yes too much and I'm trying to get a handle on it.
Plus if my wife needs one of something she'll buy two and the second goes bad or stale. Pisses me off.

We used to be bad about it. We made an effort to do better, and we have. Not eating out as much helps a lot.

A shite ton! Nobody in my family except me ever eats leftovers.

Little to none. I buy what I need at the grocery the day I'm using it

Way too much here. Something we recently discussed to do a better job of moving forward.

this is what works for us. Now that we are only two it’s much easier to do that. I hate wasting food
one thing we did do is buy a much smaller fridge when the last one died. Can’t fill it with more when it’s full

I’d say around 8%. We buy what we need instead of all at one time. The problem is that I might go to the grocery 20 times a week.
I watched a documentary recently where they said 30% of food grown never gets consumed.

Yeah I can’t go to the store that much. All my shopping is done on one day. All my meals are planned so I don’t buy what I don’t need.

I actually like going to the grocery store and finding good food at good value. So I use the weekly ads to decide what we are having that week or the next.
Loss leaders are awesome. I still have some whole chickens I bought at 49 cents/pound at Sprouts in October.
Anyway, I buy the amount of perishables that will be consumed, and I go to the store often. So my waste is minimal.
