How much does the world’s data “weigh”? (NSFW)

I was needing out on a sci-fi show on Netflix and heard the term “Zettabyte” and wormholed into learning about the massiveness of the world’s data usage and among other things, what it weighs in terms of hardware, etc.
And after learning about Amazon’s “footprint” in this arena I learned that “Amazon Web Services” accounts for the majority of Amazon’s annual revenue.
All I’m saying that’s a lot of Instagram and porn
...and for your troubles:

The world creates some 40 zettabytes of usable data each year. So just how much does that much data weigh? After all, the physical realities—i.e., the hardware and the energy needed to power the equipment—are where the rubber meets the road.
The answer? The world’s annual data traffic weighs about ten million tons.
How do we know? Thank Amazon for helping to frame this aspect of the physics of information. A few years ago, the Web giant launched its oddly named Snowmobile. It’s a 33 ton, 45-foot-long truck, a semi-trailer chock-a-block filled with digital memory that can hold 100 petabytes (PB) of data and transport it from customers’ premises to the Amazon Cloud.
And after learning about Amazon’s “footprint” in this arena I learned that “Amazon Web Services” accounts for the majority of Amazon’s annual revenue.

Amazon published its fourth quarter financial results on Thursday, beating market expectations. For the full fiscal year 2018, Amazon Web Services grew at a robust 47 percent and accounted for the bulk of the company's profit.
Amazon's net income in Q4 came to $3 billion, or $6.04 per diluted share, compared with net income of $1.9 billion, or $3.75 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2017. Revenue for Q4 increased 20 percent year-over-year to $72.4 billion.
Wall Street was looking for earnings of $5.67 per share on revenue of $71.87 billion.
All I’m saying that’s a lot of Instagram and porn

I’m just ready for next celeb fappening leak.
It’s about time again. Once a year it’s been occurring.
I’m curious who the next newbies will be.
As long as there aren’t any painfully gross vag pics like Hope Solo. Good grief, that chick has one of the ugliest vag’s on earth

Data is smarter. T-800 is tougher(hyper allow combat chassis) Depends on a lot of parameters.

Data has a phaser that can disintegrate you at a molecular level where not even a particle of your being still exists... And super smart to stay alive.
Data wins easily.

If you give Data weapons from his time, then you have to do the same for the T-800

Honestly, the info about the “data weight” was interesting, but it was much more illuminating to learn that AWS is nearly solely responsible for such a huge percentage of the worlds (cloud) data

Date would dismantle the T-800.
And a friend is asking the identity of the blonde.

2 years ago, I had maybe 3 clients using AWS for mainstream operations of their systems. Last year, it was probably closer to 10. This year, I suspect that number will triple again. Many use multi-cloud deployments for redundancy, geographic disparity, and for security reasons, so MS Azure, Google Cloud, IBM, etc. all contribute to data glut/"weight."
It's massive, and with the advancement and expanding service offerings, and the scalable nature of cloud vs local, these few giants will only get bigger. An AI would be nearly as omnipotent as God if it only set out to digest and use the data stored in the AWS and Azure clouds.

So 20 billion pounds? More to the point and sounds more impressive, imo.

It doesn't matter. The technology is still far greater in Data. T-800 is Primative in nature and design compared the Data... Data was so advanced, even Star Fleet couldn't rebuild or duplicate him.
